I was offered a job by an individual identifying themselves as Riley Williams, claiming to represent Campbell and Associates Consulting Engineers . I was led to believe this was a legitimate remote employment opportunity. Communications took place primarily via email and text message, and the onboarding process appeared informal but plausible.

Shortly after accepting the position, I was mailed checks via USPS, which the individual instructed me to deposit into my personal bank account. I was told the funds were for a Digital Agency Nastarte, for the company's brand book logo & graphic services. The checks appeared official and were issued under the company’s name. I deposited the checks and waited till they cleared. I called the bank to verify the checks # from the bank, which was verified as an active account for the employer. I then proceeded to follow the instructions provided by the employer.

My financial institution later flagged the checks as counterfeit, and my account is now restricted. I no longer have access to my funds, which were in the account prior to the incident. I have since attempted to contact the individual who hired me to verify the legitimacy of the job and the checks, but they have not responded to my emails or calls. It has become evident that this was not a legitimate job, but rather a coordinated scam.

I applied for a WFH position on Career Builder, and Riley Williams emailed me regarding my resume on the website. She offered me the job and sent a Google form for me to complete accepting the job. Then, I received an Employment Verification Letter. Everything sounded quite professional except the initial contact stated I would only work 6-8 hours per week, and our phone conversation stated I would work 10-15 hours per week. Another thing I noticed is the sound of her voice sounded choppy as if she would talk while I was still talking a few times. She sounded like she had a foreign accent, but it was slight. In addition, she called me and I tried to call back, but it went to a busy signal. I tried again and it did the same thing. Then, she called back as if she knew I was calling. When I agreed to start today at 5:00pm, she asked if I was on Eastern Time. I thought that was strange. Her most recent email was a series of steps and it said I was supposed to get a check and pay part of it to another company to make my first advertisement for the company. It didn't say an amount...only I would get 10% of it for commission. I was supposed to advertise their company on my Facebook group on my page and invite all my friends and family to join the group. Next, I was supposed to send her proof I had done it. The part that really convinced me it was a scam was this: "getting help from advertising agencies to create commercial promos". I had to get my own ad agency, but she had already found one for my first assignment. I was supposed to pay the company. She was supposed to send me a check to pay them out of the check they mailed to my home address.

+2

I'm having the same thing. She just emailed me that my check is on the way and wanted me to make a Facebook account. Did you ever receive a check? If so, did you cash it?
