I wanted to get a new passport, thinking mine had expired, only to find out later that I simply could renew it (information not provided for me on their website). With the Capitol rotundo in the navy blue header and a .org URL, this company's website is designed to make one feel as if they are applying through the U.S. government. The application form is on the site as well as choices, each with an additional fee, for a passport book, card, & expediting fee. It relays the importance of not signing the form until it is taken to a passport agency, which is a local post office. Upon taking my form and "expired" passport book to the local post office, the moment I told the postmaster I had already paid for this online, he said I should not have paid anything. This company is stealing peoples' identities and we're paying them to do it. They make it appear legit, as if providing the form online to fill out is a service but there is absolutely no benefit of using this company because they do not renew or issue new passports and in tiny print: "myusatraveldocs.org is a private company unaffiliated with the U.S. Government. The service offers U.S. citizens a PDF editor and customer support to simplify the process of fulfilling passport applications for a fee. IMPORTANT: Passport applications must still be submitted through official U.S. Govt offices and/or websites. By paying for and using our private services you confirm acknowledgment of the above statements." After erroneously paying for their "service" I received this notification, also in tiny print at the bottom of the email: "Myusatraveldocs.org is a private business that assists its clients in the preparation of passport application forms prior to their submission to a U.S. Passport Agency. It is not an official government organization nor is it affiliated with any U.S. government agency. It charges a fee for its service of providing customer support and a passport form PDF editor, which isn’t offered by the government. Alternatively, the forms needed to apply for a U.S. passport can be downloaded for free from the government’s own website and completed manually, without this service." This is a fabrication because of course these forms ARE available by the government. I have contacted them twice and received no response. Website masquerading as a US government website for passports, states it is not affiliated in small print at the bottom. After paying a fee to use the free fillable form from the US government it says they’ll email you a double-checked pdf to print and take in… which you still have to pay for the passport fee when you submit it to the actual government. It literally provides no other service than the pdf fillable form, which is already free from the state department. Additionally, “headquartered” in Barcelona, Spain.

Similar to other reports, I believed this was the official US Department of State place to renew my passport and that the fee charged was the actual passport renewal fee. The branding includes a photo of the US Capitol building, and the URL has the name USA TRAVEL DOCS, so very misleading. Also, the page asks you to choose the "US TRAVEL ONLINE APPLICATION" specific to your need. At the bottom, they indicate "Over 140,000 passports processed" - but they are not actually processing your passport or renewal but providing you a form so you can do it yourself. I was tricked into divulging my passport number, my name, address and social security number.

Website seemed legit, walked me thru process of filling out passport application, did not realize until the next day that it was not a government website. But that was after I paid the $89.00 fee and gave them sensitive information.

I searched for "renew passport" on Microsoft Bing. The first item to pop-up said "U.S. Passports Online." It had several lines to the search result with multiple links. Normally this type of search result is when something is clearly what you are looking for (such as searching "home depot" or "lowes" and the big box hardware stores come up). It said "ad" in fine print but I did not notice it since the result clearly looked like the U.S. government's website. I was happy to see we could now fill in our application online and pay for it online. Only later I realized, wait a minute, what about my old passport? Don't I need to mail that in? Why yes. I had typed in all of my personal identifiable information into text boxes to have them put it into a DS-82 form, a form that is quite easy to fill out/very straight forward and does not require "guided assistance." So now this company has all of my personal information. 2) I paid $108.95 which I thought was to renew the passport, but was simply for them to fill out my form for me. Something that takes 5 minutes to do. Even if this was a legitimate business, an acceptable fee for this would be maybe $10, it is certainly not worth $108.95. After I complained, I was refunded the money, but my personal information will still be sold for who knows how much profit on their end. Microsoft should be held just as liable and offer search results that reflect what we are looking for (they should not be allowed to prioritize a 3rd party paying them for an ad over the United States government, that is ridiculous and deceiving). The tactics used by US Passports Online was to attempt to portray themselves as the US government.
