US Bank - acting as Reports & Reviews (4)

- Walton, KY, USA

I received a call maybe about a month ago toward the middle to the end August from a supposed debt collector for US Bank. They called the distant family member's number, left a phone number and case number to contact, so we called them back and quizzed into that. He was real hostile too. They said there was debt and that they were collecting for US Bank and that we had the opportunity to pay them to get this out the way. They were also threatening legal action they were going to come and serve a warrant. Quizzing more into it, we said it didnt make sense, we didnt owe any money to US Bank and what we do is contact US Bank. They were real insistent that we shouldn't do that, that we were saving ourselves a lot of trouble not to. We hung up and called US Bank, and they confirmed that there is no debt owed by us, and that this is a scam, and they have had lots of reports of this, and that they are trying to get people to pay directly that they claim is from US Bank and that they don't have any ties to US Bank, and they said they didn't have any idea how they got info, but what they are learning is that people are hacking into people's contacts through cell phone apps. Not only did they call the family member, but the sister as well.

I received a call stating they were US Bank and needed to talk to me about my account. They had both my name and my husbands. Before this I had received several voice mail messages from them, which I didn't know because my cellular data was off. I turn it off when I'm at home and just use our Wifi. Didn't think my messages wouldn't come through though, but that makes sense. Anyway, I answered the next time they called, not knowing it was them. The person told me they were from US Bank and they needed to talk to me about my account. They asked for my social security number (last 4 digits). I told her I didn't know if the call was legit and wasn't going to give it. She said she could verify with my birth date and current employment. I hesitated but unfortunately did give her that info. She said my current employment didn't match. I told her there is no way it wouldn't. She then told me I could call them back if that would be better. I told her I don't know why your calling anyway, I paid my past due amount. She said sorry I can't tell you anything without your info. matching. She asked me again if I wanted the number to call them back. So, I took it. She said thank you very much, using my first and last name, and we hung up. I logged into my account and looked for the number, it didn't match any of them. I called customer service and told them what happened. He said that US Bank would not leave any messages for you and that they would not verify with current employer anyway. I gave him the call back number, he looked it up and he said it is associated with scams. He said it shouldn't matter that I gave her my birth-date, but regardless I'm still concerned about it. Why did I? Because we forgot to make our Feb. payment, so we were behind. I paid it early that morning, before receiving the call in the afternoon. How they would know this information (that we were behind) is beyond me, but it must be how they can seem legit and get people to give them their information. I’m glad I was smart enough to not give my social, but wish I would have went with my gut instinct to not give them any information at all. I called my bank to tell them what happened and to have them watch my account if possible. They said it's hard for them to associate birth dates with socials because there are a lot of people with the same birthdays. The phone number that they called from was 1-800-872-2625 and the number she gave me to call back was 1-800-879-1397.

The recurring phone call is a recording which says it is USBank. It asks for us to enter our credit card number to get it unblocked.

We do not have an account with USBank, but did call them to ensure they were not trying to get a hold of us. they said this is a scam and we should report it to the BBB.

I received a text message at 7:21pm on March 29, 2017 that read as follows: USBank: Account locked. Please visit personal link at : http://*** BA4AC75D [Attachment(s) removed] I don't have any other information as I didn't go to the link. I don't have an account with US Bank. This may or may not be a scam.
