Received a telemarketing call from someone claiming to be from Universal Resorts. They had knowledge of previous vacations that I had taken using Hilton Grand Vacations. They offered me a two vacation packages for up to 4 people for a total of $535 (which was later discounted to $400 during the course of converstaion). Vacations were valid for a period of 4 years and would require a 60-day advance booking. Pitch was very similar to what I have experienced in the past with legitimate companies. Agent provided a website (www.ulresorts.com) and contact number (800-998-8539). I paid the $400 using a mastercard over the phone and the charge was immediately processed. The agent said that I would receive a contract and T&C to my email within 15 minutes. After the call ended, while waiting for the contract confirmation, I examined the website more closely and noticed several red flags (unsecured URL address, content was lacking, no resort addresses or phone numbers provided, booking system that looked like a basic sign-up genius page). I then searched the ScamPulse.com website which confirmed my suspicion. I immediately called my credit card company to report the transaction as fraudulent and issue a new card. Lesson learned. If it sounds too good to be true...
