On the pier, agent Jhonny 139 in purple waistecoat approched myself and my elderly mum to sell us tickets for a boat tour around Liberty Island. I asked info about the tour and decided to buy based on the description. Jhonny said that he would only take cash. On an hindsight this seems strange since he had a PDQ machine as well as all of his colleagues. Jhonny showed me his badge saying that he works for NY City and was legit. I withdrew the money and we were rushed to the tour that was about to leave. Unfortunately we were taken to a bus and I asked to the driver if we were going to board a boat later on since I bought a cruise. The driver said that this was only a bus tour. Therefore we left and asked Jhonny for a refund. He said to write to the company as per terms and conditions and we would receive a full refund within 5 days as the QR code had not been scanned. So the tickets were unused. Moreover, the tickets had a month validity. That's what I did while Jhonny's colleagues were having a laghter at me. I have sent several emails since but I have not received a refund to date. The other day I was offered a credit: I have one year to use any Big Bus Tour for free...I found this offer extremely offensive considering that I live on the other side of the world and I do not go to NY several times per year. I had already explained to this company that I had taken my mum to NY to distract her from my dad's sudden death. I used all of my savings for this trip. Also, since I requested a refund, I was clearly not interested in these tours...so why would they offer me a credit? Moreover, their refund policy does not mention a credit. it mentions a full refund. I have contacted the DCWP but I am under the impression that they are not going to look into this. I am very upset and I hope I can save others from my silly mistake. I thought that people showing a NY badge were legit and serious. They were scammers instead. I took with my this bitter experience from NY. Honestly, I do not think to visit ever again. I wish I could alert the press and the media to save others.
