Type of a scam Employment
I got an email telling me that I have a Skype interview request. It had a link and a password to enter for the interview. The interview was set with Paul Hoffman. It was done through Skype text. He asked me a few things . After the interview he said the next day I’ll receive an email to confirm if I’ve been hired and asked me to be on Skype at 8AM the next days. The next day I had not received an email of the job offer and w4 forms. Paul did contact me at 8AM and advised that their email was down. Ha advised "you would receive an email with a check I needed to cash and buy equipment and some software, a laptop and also a certified time tracker to commence your project, training and orientation, the time tracker is to calculate your hours worked since this is an online work from home. As this is a Virtual position and you are getting paid during training..Firstly we would work on getting you the timekeeper, equipment and software required to get started. You will be provided with the following office equipments below for the set up of your Online mini office at home. Apple Laptop/ Phones ( MacBook Pro 2021 13-inch with OS X Mountain Lion, Iphone 14pro max) Laser Printer (Apple LaserJet Pro M1536dnf) - (Includes; Fax machine, Scanner, Copier), Laminating machine (Scotch Thermal Laminator 2 Roller System (TL901) Fellowes Micro-shred Confetti-cut paper shredder (Fellowes Power-shred MS-450Cs) Jabra GN9120 (Flex Boom Headset) All at no cost to you. The funds for your software's and your working materials will be provided to you by the company via check. You will be using the check-in making a purchase of your equipment from the company certified vendor and all equipment will be labelled on them with the company’s name, they will have you connected to the company database. Yes once the check is available the company will provide you her trusted vendor to purchase your equipment. NOTE: The reason why the Company is sending the funds for your Mini office equipment's is due to the fact that the company wants this to stand as a test of trust and also we want to know how good you can handle funds placed in your trust or care. Are you comfortable with all I have said, and should the funds be sent to you? and are you very reliable with company funds?“
After a while I received an email with a copied check attached from a Naomi Tayl ([email protected]) and the check was clearly a photoshoped. I was asked to do a mobile deposit and send screenshot to Paul. I Skyped Paul advising I was not conformatable with the check and told him I needed complete contact information and the job offer emailed before proceeding.
Next day, the job offer arrived via email from [email protected] signed by Andrew Webster, Chief Human Resources Officer. Yet still do not have any direct contact information.
The offer letter had the address of 5123 Pegasus Court, Suite Q, Frederik, MD 21704. The address is indeed for Syngene USA , yes when I called them at 301-662-2863, there us no such Paul Hoffman nor do they know anything about these job offers. They confirmed they have received numerous calls inquiring about the same.
