Type of a scam Debt Collections

Suspected scammer called on my wife's cellphone asking for me. She went on to say she is from Select Admin. Solutions collection agency and that I owed outstanding Lab charges of $590.38 from 12/14/2023 as they were out of network. I am on Medicare. When asked for the name of the Lab she said Medical Diagnostic Labs, but that the collection account was now in their hands. I was suspicious so looked up all my Labs and none were from December of 2023. I called the Lab I go to and they had no outstanding Balances. I said I needed to look into this more and she (Ashley) gave me the number (229)696-9796. If I paid by credit card she said she could reduce the charge to $450.38. She actually sounded convincing, like she was a medical collections/billing person gone bad? She knew name, home address,etc.

Why are they calling my wife's cell phone and asking for me RE: an outstanding bill? Why would I owe that much in December if on Medicare with prior medical expenses from a broken wrist in August? Why would I have to pay now by credit card to avoid a 45% increase in charges and possible court fee's? All this before noon after 3 medicare scam calls, something has gotta be done about this.
