I actually paid for the membership and the entire process was confusing afterward. No email receipt, no link or login information, and my two emails to "Shelly" were ignored. I immediately disputed the charge. Then, now two weeks later, "Shelly" emails and asks me to invite other women! -- The site is not secure, there is no confirmation of payment and communication is nil. Stay away as far as possible.

I received an email at my work email address from a person inviting me to join a women's leadership development group that purportedly hosts monthly events in my city. The email had details about their November "kick off meeting" event and a roster of speakers for the event. The email also indicated that if I signed up, I would also get access to meetings for the next 12 months, as well as their online set of resources. My first clue that something was wrong is that I did not receive an emailed receipt for my registration within a short time of submitting it. I located the parent company behind this "organization" -- listed either as ExecSummits or CorpSummits (on my credit card). When I tried to email the parent company with a question about the registration, I received a message that the email address was not found. I also found an article indicating that this parent company may be in the business of harvesting email addresses for sale; I also found similarly named websites for other "organizations) that looked similar, in terms of the branding, pictures on the site, and programming offered. The parent site listed series of professional summit-type programs, supposedly for different types of professionals or located in different places in the country. The speakers they boast are, in many cases, known executives/leaders -- some nationally known, some regionally/locally known. There is no social media presence for the Portland Women Leaders group; I was expecting to find something on LinkedIn or Facebook about the organization.
