Phishing Scam - USPS Impostor Reports & Reviews (101)

- Drexel Hill, PA, USA

I am moving and typed in "address change" on my phone. I clicked on a link that said USPS Mail Forwarding - Official Site. I entered old and new address, and then entered my credit card information to cover the ~$4 "verification fee." Shortly thereafter I saw a charge from for $179 described as "Assistmovepost." I googled that and was taken back to the website. Still thinking that I had been charged by USPS, I called them, only to have them look at the URL on my phone and realize it was not their official site and I'd most likely been scammed. I have tried contacting them through their web form with no response and there is no phone number listed.

Text message from +63 905 630 1237 stating:

"Your USPS package has arrived at the warehouse and could not be delivered due to incomplete address information.

Please reconfirm your address within the link.

When I clicked the link it was requesting 30 cents for redelivery fee. After putting in credit card info it said this card was not accepted. I tried another card, same thing. I gave up. Next day the bank from one of the cards contacted me stating suspicious activity occurred, that the card was enrolled in a digital wallet (which I did not do).

The odd this about this is that a few days prior a friend tried to mail me a package using the US Postal Service, but the address was written slightly wrong, and was returned to them. They tried again and shortly after is when I received this text message.

Did not respond had no package that was not delivered.

- Brawley, CA, USA

Text message with a supposedly USPS tracking number claiming issues with my address. Instructed to respond within 12 hours through the link provided. Website looked like USPS & asked for my correct address. On the next page there's a request for .30 as a redelivery fee. I am expecting a package, although it seemed suspicious, I filled out the information from my card. It taking too long, so I closed the page. I hope I closed it in time that these acammers didn't get my card information, because they now have my names & address. I checked & found out USPS doesn't charge a redelivery fee. I'm very scared & concerned over this mess, hoping any damage will be minimal. I don't know if they got access to my account.

- Westminster, CA, USA

Scammer sent text message stating a package could not be delivered due to bad address. Referred to go to website www.uspostujnes.com to make correction. At site asked for first and last name, address, phone number, and email. Required all feilds filled. Then continued to next page asking for credit card information. Stated there was a $0.30 redelivery fee.

- Saratoga Springs, NY, USA

The entire thing was a bit crazy. The website they provided actually redirected to the real website of USPS, which made me less wary. Plus, I have a complicated address, so it made a lot of sense to me that someone was messing up my address (I was expecting a package from NJ sometime soon). I gave them my address and credit card information, though it did not seem to fully process on the website (though that could have just been a front). I'm especially worried because somehow the website provided was able to redirect to the real USPS address.

Here's the message below:

The scammer told me that the package arrived at the warehouse, but there was an incomplete address. They wanted me to use a link to confirm a (new) address for delivery. It had extra steps in case the link didn’t work. Then at the bottom they said that the US postal team wishes me a wonderful day. I fell victim to the scam once before, so I know not to click the link. I only went as far as to opening the message. In the last one they sent me, they asked for personal and banking information for a new address and payment for a redelivery.

- Broomall, PA, USA

They sent me a text about incomplete address information, and asked to open a link. It even had extra instructions in case the link didn’t work. A message from the “team” at the end of it. On the link it required me to put in new address info, then it asked for payment. $0.30 for a redelivery. It told me my card was invalid. I know it was very late, but that’s when I realized something was really wrong.

- Seminole, FL, USA

Referred to package as undeliverable due to incomplete address. Needed a 30 cent payment for redelivery, via credit/bank card.

- Oak Lawn, IL, USA

They contacted me via text from +63 927 684 0331 stating: The USPS package arrived at the warehouse but could not be delivered due to incomplete address information. Please confirm your address in the link. On the link they asked for updated name/address info and credit card info for a 0.30 cent re-delivery charge. After I put this through, I realized it was likely a scam and contacted my credit card company. They placed a hold on my account and blocked a fraud charge of 0.51 cents for door dash that I didn't do.

I have a package that’s been struggling to be delivered by usps, I’m not sure why. It’s out for delivery again today, and I got a text message telling me to go to uspbn.shop to schedule a redelivery. It requested my address and then asked me to pay $0.30 as a redelivery fee.

- Buffalo, NY, USA

Phone number appears to be an International number. +44 7481 085943. Provided link to click on. I didn't since I wasn't expecting package arrival. The link looked like this; :www.usposats.xyz

Two msgs were sent to me. Happened early afternoon 1 Oct, Sunday, 2023.

- Atlanta, GA, USA

Got a text message from [email protected] claiming to be USPS, saying package was at warehouse and gave a link. Just want to get this email address out there so no one falls for the scam.

- Mount Rainier, MD, USA

It was a text from phone number +60 11 6422 4843. I went to https://trckspost.com (from the text message) and entered my name address and phone number. It looks like a very legit USPS website and I had just received a package, so it was very confusing. But when it requested my credit card number I considered that very suspicious, Googled the text message and found out it is a scam.

It asked for $.30 but probably would have charged more had I entered my credit card number.
