Type of a scam Employment
After the chat-based interview, I was told I got the job. They sent a follow-up email with an offer letter, but I noticed several red flags: the email address didn't seem to match the company's domain, and the offer letter had spelling and grammatical errors.
Then they said they would be sending me a check to purchase equipment for the job and instructed me to deposit it and use the funds to pay a specific vendor. This is a common scam — the check appears real at first but eventually bounces, leaving the victim responsible for the withdrawn amount.
They also asked me to send personal information like my full name, address, and a copy of my ID via email.
This scam relies on impersonating legitimate companies and preying on people seeking remote work. If you're ever asked to handle money or buy equipment with funds from a check they send, it's almost always a scam. Always verify the company independently and be cautious with job offers that only involve chat communication and poor documentation.
