I was looking online to renew my passport. The website I clicked on looked very much like the State Department's website that I have used in the past. I clicked on a link and it had me fill in all of my information. It was only recently when I went back to my email to do more digging (I had yet to receive my passport in the mail) that I found that the service had described that I was really only giving them the info so that they could "fill out the form" for me that I could otherwise have done for myself online for free. Another deceiving piece of it was that the amount I paid was exactly what it should cost me to renew my passport plus a credit card fee (which I've seen happen with other state agencies like the State of Illinois when I go to renew my registration every year). And now I can't get a human to answer the phone or an email and I've had to dispute the charge with my credit card company.
