Type of a scam Business Email Compromise

I received an email stating it was from Murphy Business and Financial Corporation which I applied to the open position on Indeed.com. They email stated that position was already giving to somebody else but that a new position was open for the Personal Assistant for Larry Nieman which is the president of the company. The business itself is real but somebody is using their information scamming people. The email proceeded to say that a certified cashier check would be sent to my address and I could deposit it into my financial institution which I did. They I was instruction to go to a local store and purchase 3 gifts cards which I did and sent him the information. Once I did that the person instructed me to complete another task but once I did that I checked my bank account to only find out I was negative and when I called my back they informed me the check was fake. I then contacted Murphy Business and I spoke with a Shelby and she stated that a lot of people are getting this scammed but I was the first to receive a check. I then filed a police report on the fake check but either way my bank won’t fix it and I now how to come out of pocket for $1,665.00
