I filled out an online apolitical become a secret shopper quite a bit ago. I was emailed that I was pending acceptance and they needed more information. After giving them more information, a while later an envelope came in the mail. Correct name, address, everything. I opened it and it contained a check in the amount of $3,000 and a printed instructions page on how I am supposed to go about doing my first “mission”. I am supposed to text-only text- Karen Grooms @336-310-9031 or 336-612-8971. I am to let her know that I have received the package. Then deposit the check into my personal bank account. Once the funds have processed I am to the go to a list of stores and purchase a total of $2500 worth in gift cards. I am to not let employees know who I am or what I am truly doing there. After doing all this I am to text this Karen Grooms again and also take pictures of the cards to send to her. I am to keep the cards then to use for future assignments. This all looks and seems pretty legit until you realize that there is no real company name, address, company phone number or email or anything. Also I am to be referencing my name and code number-which is supposed to be in left hand corner of this letter and that is missing as well. All this said and done seems too good to be true!

I received a text from Karen Grooms asking me if I received the package delivered to me by mail? When I arrived home from work, there was an envelope addressed with my correct name and address. Inside there was a check in the amount of $3,000.00. I looked over the letter it had a logo MSG- Develop, Coordinate, Execute. Reference number 072021Batch14. The letter was typed, but it was missing things like Date, Company Address, Email or even a Salutation. The letter instructs me to cash out or deposit the check. I remember filling out an application to be a secret shopper back some time ago. These were the instructions: (1)Visit Walmart store and purchase 3- non-reloadable Walmart visa prepaid gift cards in the amount of $500.00 each=$1500.00. (2)Visit CVS-Walgreens-Target and purchase 2-non-reladable American Express gift cards in the amount of $500.00=$1000.00. The purchases will total $2,500.00, and I get to keep the remaining $500.00 for completing the assignment. Then I am to text Karen Grooms batch supervisor (617) 249-6143 confirming her the purchase of the gift cards. This all sounded really good, I can use the $500.00 right. Then the instructions were for me to remove the sticker on the gift cards, take a clear picture front and back of each card and send to Karen Grooms at the number above. They stress that under no circumstances if I am asked I am a Survey Shopper, I should not acknowledge that I am evaluating their services. With closure, they mention that the cards are not intended for the supervisor or any person of their team, and the cards will be used for my forthcoming assignment. Their only means of communicating is via TEXT. Looks too good to be true, so don't fall for it even if you really could use the money.
