We received a call saying my dad was receiving a new Medicare aid card. We gave out his card number (stupidly) then realized it was a scam and hung up. No financial information was given. Thankfully, no money was lost. Scary though.

I am visiting my elderly father. A man called, claiming to be representing Medicare. He said that they would be sending an elastic back brace. I said he didn't need one. He insisted. I told him to contact us in writing, not by phone, that I needed to verify his identity. He became kind of "huffy," stating that "this is Medicare, the United States government! We are not asking you for any information! These calls are all monitored for quality and..." He also said that they had sent 2 letters and had not heard back, that they have found that "70% of Medicare recipients" do not respond to these letters, so they call people. He said that they would send the brace in 5-7 business days. If it comes, I will send it back. I am letting you know about this because I think that the Medicare fraud people are getting more aggressive. A lot of older adults (and probably younger) would probably fall for this one.

I have received 2 phone calls supposedly from Medicare. I did not answer 1 and no message was left. I did answer the 2nd one. A male with a foreign accent stated he was from Medicare and did I still have a particular medical pain issue. I told him I did not know who he was and would not continue the conversation then I hung up on him.

When I asked for more information, he gave a smart alek answer. When I said he wasn’t being very nice, he said, “I don’t have to be nice!”

Phone call saying they were from Medicare, wanting to send me back brace or knee brace. It was a local number to me. I asked them about that & they said it sometimes shows up as local. I asked several times if they were from Medicare, each time they said "yes". They had a lot of my personal information. I told them not to call me again.

Caller claimed to be from Medicare and wanted to send me a back brace free. He asked for birth date and Medicare ID (to "confirm" recipient identity) - he had my name, age, phone #. When asked, he gave his name as "Johnny Black". When asked "Why does Medicare think I need a back brace?", he said it was a new program.

The first call showed as "Private Caller." After he asked for my Medicare ID#, I hung up. He called back (again as "Private Caller"). I didn't answer, but checked the message, which was a second or two of background (call center?) noise. Message playback included the phone number above.

The person claimed to be from Medicare and offering my father a back brace. They asked about the clinic he goes to, the Dr and he gave them the last 4 digits of his social security number. They wanted his Medicare number, but he did not give it to them. This happened today so it is not known if this will impact his finances.
