I keep getting phone calls from 205-289-2022 that leaves a message saying that if I do not press 1 to talk to a representative about a back brace Medicare will drop me. I do not answer my phone and it sounds like an automatic recording that leaves a message.

Contact by phone by an individual claiming to be from the US Government and needing to verify my Medicare number. Unfortunately gave it. They then wanted my birthday which is when I said no. I asked for their number and they gave me 264-789-1000. They said something about ordering braces and I said no and hung up. They called back twice and I hung up both times.

A gentleman called the landline 10:30 Friday, 1-25-19 and spoke with my mom -- who unfortunately, did give information thinking it was about getting her new Medicare Card. They hung up due to getting to a doctor's appointment. The gentleman called again in the afternoon of Friday, 1-25-19 and this time spoke with my dad -- who immediately told him he was going to hang up and call the and report this call.

While I was on the phone with my dad (his mobile) on Tuesday midday, 1-29-19, a Mr. Garcia called their landline and my dad answered. I told my dad to have the gentleman call me so I could understand what he was trying to tell. The gentleman had no qualms talking to me and called immediately after hanging up with my dad. I asked more than once who he was with and the response was "Medicare". I asked how I would know that. He wanted to offer a free knee and back brace that Medicare would cover since that was information on a doctor's visit -- which I knew was not true. I asked again why they wanted to send something when we could get what we needed from our doctor. The phone call was ended by Mr. Garcia.

I then looked up Medicare scams and found there is one circulating around about free back and knee braces. Beware -- this is a scam.

I have received several calls from a caller who claims to be from Medicare informing me they need to verify information for my husband. They know his name, address and year of birth and ask me to get his new card and verify the new number with them. I obviously refuse to give them his new card number. Once I hang up, I try to call back the last call received on my phone, but the telephone number is missing a digit, making it untraceable.

When I answered the phone, the caller identified himself as calling from Medicare. He already had my name and address, medical information that sounded as though he were reading from my medical record, and some numbers and letters from my new Medicare card -- he simply read what he had to me and asked me to fill in the blanks! In retrospect, that was the part that really "suckered" me. He claimed that the low back, ankle, and shoulder braces that would be sent to me would be paid for by Medicare.

Thereafter, I received several confirmation calls every day; then people who were going to do the shipping of the braces began calling to confirm name and address and best time of day to be at home to sign for a package.

By this time I knew something wasn't right. The callers who made the original calls and the follow-up calls were no help when I asked questions. I told each person I talked with that I wanted to cancel my order, and they hung up on me. A man in one of the mail rooms told me to call to speak with a supervisor. That didn't work either. Then, concurrent with continuing to receive as many as 30 plus calls a day, I began to receive packages with braces in them. Right now I have several boxes piled in my spare room, waiting for me to figure how to mail these back and to alert Medicare that these claims are fraudulent. I am writing to you, hoping that what has happened to me can help you to help others before it happens to them. There are really 2 victims -- Medicare and me. (I understand that my name will not be used under any circumstances.)

The person called 6 times a day, when answered said they were from Medicare updating records, proceeded to ask personal questions, when asked to confirm location and identity redirected the conversation. The Male with Indian accent sounded sincere and said thank God when I answered a question that I did not have a medical condition. Asked if additional coverage was desired, proceeded to ask personal questions.

I received a early morning call with the people representing themselves as Medicare. They spoke with a thick Indian accent. They also had all my information EXCEPT my Medicare number. Being half asleep I gave it to them. When they asked for random medical information then I hung up, but by then it was too late.

I have received 3 calls over the past week from a Hispanic man claiming to be a Medicare representative. There was noise from a call center in the background. He wanted to verify my Medicare information, although he already had my first and last name, my home address, and land line phone number. He asked if I had received my "plastic" Medicare card (Medicare cards are always paper). He then asked for my middle initial, at which point I knew it was definitely a scam because my Medicare card already has my middle initial on it. I then told him that he was a scammer because I know that Medicare never calls people on the phone. He abruptly said he would send me paperwork to my street address and hung up. I then called the Medicare Hotline and reported the incident. The scammer's phone number is 1-619-558-2776, which I got from my caller ID. He got no more information about me than he already had, which is already troubling. I sensed he was a scammer from the beginning but I led him on, just to see what he was phishing for.

My brother received a phone call about a common Medicare scam, to receive a "free" back brace and knee brace. He is disabled and lives in an assisted living facility. UPS attempted to deliver the equipment to an empty house that my brother used to live in. The package required a signature so it was not delivered. Later, I happened to be at my brother's apartment and answered a call from someone who said they were calling from Medicare to verify receipt of the back and knee brace. After some discussion I realized it was a scam and told them we would not accept delivery of the package and to not call again. They hung up the phone. I guess the package will eventually be returned to the sender by UPS.

This man called saying his name was Sean, he had a very thick Indian accent, he told me to remove all of the numbers that have been calling me about braces, up to 38 calls a day he could stop it if I gave him information on a recorded line. I kept refusing to do or say what he wanted on the recording he got more and more frustrated started asking if I was slow in the head if there was something wrong with me He told me I was wasting his time and he would not let me talk to his supervisor, he talked over me would not let me get a word in edgewise and was so rude he actually told me to go to HE!! If you know what I mean. I am so tired of these sales people claiming to be from Medicare or some health place trying to get me to buy braces mostly but sometimes cancer screenings and massagers. My phone is been useless for three months because I had to keep that constantly on silent, I missing important calls and while I’m on calls I’m getting so many calls in the background I can’t understand what people are saying. I’m desperate for this to stop!! Please help

They called on the phone with caller ID giving the number on the back of the card. They tell you you qualify for a free knee and neck brace. They want to send it to you even if you don’t want or need it. They know your name , address and birthdate. They want to verify your Medicare number. I hung up on them twice and they kept calling. Hate these people.

I get sometimes 2 or 3 calls a day from Spanish sounding ladies to get a free medicare brace

Victim Location 29909
Type of a scam Healthcare/Medicaid/Medicare

Picked up the phone which came in on area code 918. First talked to a woman with a foreign accent, possibly East Indian or Pakistani. She said she was calling on behalf of Medicare. She talked at length about providing me with a back and knee brace. I admitted to having back pain. Then she passed me on to a man with the same type of accent. He asked the exact questions. I got inpatient with the time this was taking and told so. By that time I realized that it was a scam.

My phone rings all day long with numbers I don't recognize. I am so tired of these calls that I decided to start answering them thinking I could get rid of them myself. Big mistake!
