We found the dealership website online. I checked for reviews and BBB and the dealership was legit. Reached out by phone to purchase a 1967 camaro. Sent title. The VIN checked out when we called to get insurance quote. We were told we couldn't pay deposit on credit card but could wire from our bank to theirs. Wired $9000 to have the car shipped. Said we could give the driver the balance in cash or wire once the car arrives. They were in Colorado, we are in Maine. They did say we could pay the deposit by credit card in person. Had the driver call to verify or address. Was told the car was loaded on the truck and would be here Sunday. Car never came. Everything seemed legit. We were more focused on if the dealership was reputable, not thinking someone could pretend to be the dealership. I have had many classes on intent fraud and this one snuck past me.
