This person was selling a Bose speaker on Facebook market place.

We agreed that they will send it over to me as soon as I pay. Seemed very lovely. And then when it tried to pay them via PayPal it wouldn’t work at all [email protected], then they said maybe let’s try my mates which is [email protected] and then we tried [email protected]. None would work.

Then he said “oh, just buy me an Amazon voucher” and gave me an email address [email protected]. And then the pretended that the voucher was empty when they tried to use it. And demanded I buy them another one since they spent so much time on them. Then I realised they were a scammer.

- Indianapolis, IN, USA

On October 24, 2020, I contacted someone (name unknown) via the following email [email protected] after seeing a post on Craiglist about needing to re-home a golden retriever puppy. On October 25, 2020, I received an email from someone named Joseph Gillies (phone: 469-319-2695; email: [email protected]) explaining he needed to re-home a golden retriever puppy named Tucker because he had moved to an apartment and it did not allow pets. Joseph asked a couple of questions via email about my ability to care for the puppy. After a few emails, he offered to let me re-home the 11-week-old puppy for a fee of $260, to which I agreed. Joseph then noted he had recently moved to Pasadena, MD and gave me the option of 1) driving to Maryland to pick up the puppy or 2) pay $140 to have the puppy sent to Indianapolis, Indiana with a reputable pet transportation company (Prime Eco Logistics). I chose the latter since I study full-time and work part-time. Joseph asked me to send payment via Zelle in order to cover transportation and registration costs. The Zelle account provided is listed below:

Account:: [email protected]

Name:: Zakai Norwood

Amount:: $400 ($260 re-homing fee, $140 transportation)

Memo::: Tucker

On the morning of October 26, 2020, I received a text message from Joseph letting me know he had registered the puppy under my name and left him to be transported to Indianapolis. Shortly after, I received an email from Prime Eco Logistics (transportation company), notifying me that the puppy was in transit and would arrive around 9 AM on October 27, 2020. I also received a call from a Haitian male in charge of delivering the puppy. He called using the following number (443) 593-4217 (GoogleVoice number from Elkton, MD). Throughout the day, I received texts from "Joseph" and calls from the Haitian male with updates. However, at 5:41 PM, I received an email from Prime Eco Logistics with the following information:

The Pets Control Department of our service wishes to bring to your knowledge that we are already on a transit at Lexington, KY. All checks have been processed and taken care of. Just as we are about to continue with the transportation to your location, The brilliant weather forecasters at our weather station brought to our noticed that the weather condition is very threatening and would hazardous for the puppy to travel through without a Thermal Electronic Crate (T.E.C) to ensure the safety of the puppy while on flight to your location.

For these reasons the puppy has been held by the Pets Control department in collaboration with the Pets Transportation Security Administration (P.T.S.A). The puppy cannot be transported without a Thermal Electronic Crate. So we urge you to get one this Thermal Electronic Crate as soon as possible to enable us to meet up with our delivery schedule. We have these crates in our agency, We do NOT sell the crate to our customers but we offer them for HIRE/RENTAL to safeguards the life of a pet while on flight. The cost of renting one of these crates is $960.

The provided a second Zelle account (see below) in order to cover the cost of the crate.

Email: [email protected]

Cashier's Name: Wunde

Payment for T.E.C

Amount: $960

Shortly after the email, I received a call from the Haitian male asking me to pay for the crate in order to ensure the safety of the puppy. Since I knew it was a scam, I refused to pay any more money.
