I went to file an EIN through the IRS website. This website was the first one that popped up and looks exactly like the IRS website. I began to fill out the form, which prompted me to fill in my address, SSN, phone number, email, etc. I was prompted to pay $249 for my EIN through the website, which I did. Upon submitting my application, I realized it was a scam. I emailed the company and canceled my order and requested a refund. I called my banks and froze my account after seeing that the $249 was gone. I called the scam company and spoke with a representative, who canceled my order. A little while later, I received an email saying my order had been canceled and a refund was issued. The money was back in my account, luckily.
