I was called saying the IRS was going to sue me for unpaid taxes. I file my taxes correctly every year and it was obviously a scam to get personal information - which I did not provide.

- Colonia, NJ, USA

I received a call from a recording stating the IRS has a warrant against me and my house is in jeopardy. The number came up on my cell from Longview WA was 360-218-2678 and asked me to call back that same number to rectify. I did not call it back.

- Englewood, CO, USA

I received a call from (719) 927-8496, a computer voice saying that I was about to be arrested if I didn't call the number back. It's tax return season, which means tax scams are in high gear. The IRS will NEVER EVER CALL YOU if you owe money; they will send a notice via mail. Beware of calls from this or other numbers!

- Huntington Beach, CA, USA

Received a very threatening phone call from the "IRS" stating I had intentionally cheated on my taxes from 2010-2017. I would be arrested, a lien on my property my bank funds seized along with my passport & drivers license within hours. An agent would also be coming to my home. The "IRS agent" with a very heavy accent told me I have a lawsuit filed against me & I have 2 choices....go to court or pay them immediately and the court case would go away. He provided me with a "Case & Badge number" . I was asked not to interrupt him as he read from his well crafted script. He could not provide me with any personal information such as where I live or my SS number. I had a few choice words for him before I hung up. I then googled the number and saw there were so many identical stories.

Today I was called 4x from 2 different numbers (657-859-7809 and 714-927-9004) left me voicemails all the same so I called them back and I knew it was a scam I got loud with him and he yelled at me and said don’t u talk to me like that I’m an official federal agent and I’m sending a cop over there within 40 minutes to arrest u I went off on him and hung up on him

- Saint Louis, MO, USA

The prerecorded message gave the first name of an IRS agent stating that the IRS had a lawsuit against me and that I should call 714-927-5949. I received 5 calls after I listened to the first one for a total of 6 calls from this number.

Today I received the same message from another number 747-201-9606

- Hayti, MO, USA

I received a call from a unknown number so I didn't answer it. Instead I let it go to voicemail. The voicemail stated "You are under federal investigation because of fraud and unethical activities found in the audit report of you taxes. You can reach me on 202-864-2294. Do not try to disregard the message or else it will be taken as an offense from your side. Again this is Officer Jonathan Night from the Internal Revenue Sercive." The same voicemail came from the 2 number listed above, 202-864-2294 and 646-558-6671 but the officers names were changed. I know that the IRS doesn't make outbound calls regarding tax audits. The message was automated. When I called both numbers back I was also hung up on when I would ask what this was in reference to. The scammer couldn't answer any question I had and it always resulted in them hanging up.

Officer John Knight called several times today. The recording says: "If you do not want to be penalized or prosecuted call 845-723-1055 and ask for Officer Jonathon Knight".

- Mansfield, MO, USA

- Lawton, OK, USA

I received a call saying there was an arrest warrant for me from the IRS. I was informed to call the number back to resolve the issue before they turned the warrant to my state authorities. I did not call the number back but researched it on the internet where I found it was a scam.

- Marshfield, MO, USA

I received a automated phone call 4 times today that says it's Lisa Williams an officer with IRS and that they need me to respond before they proceed. I called them back because I was told that I should request that they send me a certified letter and when I said this the person hung up on me.

My son, who lives in SLC, Utah was contacted by "the IRS" claiming he owed back taxes. He was told to go to Best Buy, buy STEAM cards and then once he did this, at two different Best Buys, to scratch off the code on the back of the card and read the information to the scammers. What they did well was they kept him on the phone with lots of threats of arrest and being made public. This way, he was unable to call us, his parents, to ask for advice. We are now just learning that this scam went on for three hours! As the scam was with steam cards and the money is already gone, we do not know if the bank will be able to get his money back for him.

I'm 79 years old. Ashley McConaghy appeared on my caller ID. I didn't answer it. She said she was the IRS and that I was in trouble with the IRS and I had 24 hours to call back, or the cops would take me to jail. Her number on caller ID was 823-303-5713.

VOICE MAIL MESSAGE

- Mishawaka, IN, USA

Call claiming to be IRS,

Said that there were Federal charges against my name, and that an Arrest Warrant was going to be issued.

They said that this was my one chance to resolve it, and gave me a $ amount that i could pay to extend those charges.

First I received a call from “the Irs ,informing me of a suit that had been filed against me. I was told to call the number back to receive all the information to settle my case.” Irs scam Greg (middle eastern accent obviously not GREG) told me I was being sued by the Irs. He asked my number so I gave my number for my home phone. Cell phones can be hacked. We keep info on them that could be detrimental to our families. When he asked my name I asked him if he could give my first name I would give my last name. He refused so I told him that I would not be giving him any more information. He hung up. I hate scammers. I do not owe money. I am not going to give more information to anyone. My next question would have been what is the office address to come in and discuss my case. It would not be a post office.
