Person said he was a sheriff with the IRS and I have a warrant for my arrest. He was too busy to give me any info except warrant ID and that county sheriff would be at my house to arrest me in 45 minutes. No warrant so BS!

Calls, says that there is an arrest warrant out for you because of taxes. I asked them to identify the person they are looking for and he made me wait a second and then gave a name I have never heard of. I hung up. Person I spoke to had an Indian accent.

I received an automated message from the IRS claiming that because I have not paid them, they have filed charges against me. I was asked to call 262-955-2313 if I wanted to avoid the charges and pay them. The caller ID said "(262) 955-2313 Waukesha, WI". Over an hour later, I received another call from that caller ID, which I did not answer.

Has anybody else gotten phone calls from this number or anybody stating they are the IRS & it’s about a bill? Saying last chance/time will contact you....it’s a recording. I called them back out of curiosity and told them it was absurd that I wouldn’t have gotten an email or something in the mail in regards to any issues and they said that they couldn’t sent by mail or email & promptly hung up on me. So.... of course I called back, and nobody replied and hung up on me again.....& it sounds like a call center in the background.

Classic IRS scam. Police cannot track the phone number other than the exchange is from South Dakota. Have left 2 voicemails that the police will be coming to pick me up on 4 warrants for failure to pay taxes. I called them back from a public phone number, they fished for information and asked me how much money I had to send them.

Victim Location94805 Type of a scamTax Collection
A guy with a thick Indian- or Pakistani-sounding accent called from 206-202-3158 and said he was from the IRS Washington office and that I owed money based on an IRS audit. He connected me to his partner, an SF scam artist, at 415-553-8990, who said I was going to be taken to court next Monday in Sacramento or I could pay the IRS the $3000-plus I owed from the audit today. I COULD ONLY PAY TODAY. He said to meet him at the SF Federal building in a couple of hours or else no deal. I should bring all my tax information from 2009 -2016. I'd be going to court if I declined to meet with him. A lien would be placed on my property and my wages garnished if I did not comply. It was subtle: He couldn't guarantee that my payment posted today would go through since it was so close to the Monday court deadline, when I would be required to make an appearance. But he would see what he could do. Nice touch. Subtle. Convincing.
Right after the call ended, I called the Seattle and the SF police departments and was told this is a frequent scam. It happens all the time. I then called the fictitious Washington IRS agent "Anthony Clark" back and said the police were on there way to arrest him and his scam partner. He replied, "*** *** and *** ***R POLICE!"
He used the name "Anthony Clark." His SF accomplice went by "Simon Matthews." Both names are probably real IRS agents. And the court house I was supposed to meet "Simon" at is in fact the Federal bldg. These guys sounded smart and sophisticated. When I called back 415-553-8990, which is a real IRS phone number, I got a recorded message, seemingly left by a real IRS employee. Apparently, these guys could intercept and reroute incoming calls from the real IRS number and then speak to callers as IRS agents. It was all pretty convincing. One key thing that alerted my suspicions more than anything else was that the SF scammer said the IRS had sent me a letter by mail in December and nothing else since then. I know that's not the IRS's policy. They send multiple letters and then a notice by certified mail if you fail to respond.
One other things. I had been receiving recorded phone messages for months that I was going to be arrested for tax evasion. When I would try and call back, the number was disconnected. This happened 4-6 times over 6 month or so. This makes me believe that this scam is well thought out: build subtle worry or fear of months by calling people for months. Finally, if you (the scammers) reach them less than a week before a federal court summons, they (the honest taxpayers) are going to believe the situation is real and not simply a predatory scam.

Voice message left on my phone stating that the IRS was going to put a lean against me for unpaid IRS taxes and that this was their last attempt to contact me. They said to call the above telephone #. I called the number from another telephone number - said that I was unsure why I received the call, and that I would have my CPA contact them. The woman (thick Indian accent) said that they would not be able to share my situation with an Accountant since the IRS issue was mine alone. She asked for my last name to search the issue - -I didn't give it and I said that I don't want to handle the problem & let what may happen happen. She said OK and hung up.

We have not called it back thinking it is a scam. It is a computer message.
