This report contains several warning signs that are commonly associated with grant scams. While individual cases may vary, be especially cautious if you notice a combination of the following:

– The first contact comes through Facebook Messenger or another social media platform.
– You’re told you’ve already been selected for an IMF or government grant without submitting an application.
– The conversation is moved to Gmail or another free email service instead of official organizational channels.
– You’re asked to provide sensitive personal information before your identity or eligibility has been verified.
– You’re asked to pay processing, delivery, insurance, or tax fees before receiving the supposed grant.
– The sender provides badges, certificates, ID cards, or other documents intended to make the offer appear legitimate.

If you’ve received a similar message, avoid sharing personal information or sending money until you’ve independently verified the claim through the organization’s official website.

They eventually told me I would need to pay a processing fee before the grant could be released. That’s when it became obvious it was a scam. No legitimate government agency or international organization asks people to pay money or provide sensitive personal information to receive a grant. If you get this message, block the sender and report the account.

I received almost the identical message on Facebook. The profile looked like someone I knew, but after checking, I realized it was a fake account using their photos. The conversation quickly moved to Gmail, and they asked for personal information before explaining anything about the supposed grant. That was the point I stopped responding.
