International Development Association Reports & Reviews (54)

Hello,

Someone hacked into one of my friend's Facebook Messenger account. Through that, this pretending to be my friend, mentioned she received several thousands of dollars in a grant and that if I wanted to 'cash in', to text a phone number (entered above). I thought it was peculiar, so I am reporting it. They called it I.D.A. (International Development Association).

Thank You,

A friend of the family contacted me on IG yesterday congratulated me on the new baby (as can be seen from my page) thought nothing of it.

She casually contacted me asked how I was doing “planted a seed” waited a day then Asked if I knew about this grant and that she was awarded $100k she said she would help me through the process to get one.

She told me to text the attorney ASAP to send me the paperwork using code IFC which was weird. I was like well it’s 4am she said it was fine.

I was suspicious and asked if she still live in dallas. She said yes (doesn’t live in dallas last I checked) then brought up stuff about my family and the resturant we last went to and then no response. So I don’t know. Seemed like an aggressive push for a grant in the mid of the night

This scammer used the name of an acquaintance on Facebook to contact my husband, who is fighting stage 4 colon cancer. The scammer claimed this foundation is battling poverty offering “free” support money to help pay personal debt. Because my husband shared some of his journey through 1400 hours of chemo on Facebook, he was targeted. We have paid out about $300,00.00 on medical bills and expenses. The idea of help with our debt now that we’re retired seemed like a miracle. We wondered about the poor grammar and lack of letterhead or signature line in the emails. But then when we were given a schedule of the upfront money we needed to pay to get our “support grant”, we realized it must be a scam. We are attaching some of the emails.

A FB friend I've known IRL since HS (over 30 yrs) FB messaged me, which was strange to start with. I now see that FB messenger notes that although the messages appear to come from my friend, he is using messenger w/o FB on an account that was recently created. Here is "his" side of the convo:

Hope you are also aware about the ongoing International Development Association 2019 grant program ?

The grant is meant for people who need financial assistance in paying bills, medical bills, buying of new home, home repair, starting and financing of business, paying of debt or student loans, provide funds for disables and elderly people. In short, the grant money can be used for anything.

This new program I was granted $60,000 when I applied for the grant and my friend got her grant money of $100,000 you don’t have to pay it back and you can also apply as well.

This is free, You just need to text the Attorney in charge of the program that you want to apply for a grant and he will be giving you the requirements to fill and let you know everything.

Here is the Hotline 8325216256 send the short code "IDA" to as a text and tell him that you want to apply for the grant money. Text him now so that i can confirm i gave you their right text number.

Oh . I’m only sharing you because I’m sure you can also make good use of this program but they told me not to invite anyone again..

A message was sent to me through messenger by a relative telling me about the grant, International Development Association, (IDA). I thought it was legitimate. I had to contact the agent to apply. I fill out a form and was approved. I had to send money via Amazon cards for a processing and delivery fee. (300.00) Then each time more money was asked for for a certificate of ownership. (400.00) Lastly, for a IRS document (1500.00) I was scammed out of $700.00 in all. I thought that it was real. I beginning looking for information online and realized it was not real. FEDEX was suppose to deliver the package, but was arrested. My relative's messenger was hacked.

Friend referred me on Facebook messenger to a phone number hotline to text to apply for a government grant. She said she got 50K and her friend got 80K. I was skeptical but did my research. I didn’t find anything about the specific grant she was talking about. Against my better judgment I texted the number. It was not a robo-reply. They responded next day in all Caps claiming to be Mark Davis, the administrator for the International Development Association grant program. I texted back and forth and the last thing he said he would need is my name and ID. Red flags go off so I didn’t continue. I reported to the Federal Trade Commission.

My mom got a text saying that someone she knew (who was a coworker) just got approved for a $150,000 grant and all she had to pay was $3,000. They kept texting my mom from 978-515-0245. My mom called me about it and I dialed the number but was unable to leave a voicemail and also no one ever answered the phone. She never talked to them, they only communicated only via text. My mom actually called my coworker and she confirmed that she has never texted my mom about this company, so this scam clearly also reached my mom's coworker as well. They told my mom that she needed to get a sim card and they needed $1,000.

The name used was Attorney Leon Sherbick, he ask for all your information then tell you that you’ve been approved. Then tells you to get 5 $100 prepaid cads, scratch the numbers on the back of the cards take pictures of the cards then text the pictures of the numbers to him then in 24 hours your money will be

The scammer used one of my friends profile on internet messaging...telling me to apply for a government grant. If I pay UPS COURIER $500.00 I WOULD RECEIVE $20,000.00 CASH within 24 hours. The scammer was very persistence in trying to get me to apply for the grant.

Also when the scammer would messenger me my friend internet picture would pop up as though she was the one I was conversing with.
