Yesterday, I went online to get a direct phone number for Expedia. One came up as 888-447-6137. I called it and when I asked to confirm, they said it was the Expedia Reservation Desk. I asked to cancel a reservation made directly on Expedia’s website. They cancelled it, and while on the phone, I received an email from Expedia.com confirming the cancellation. Then I was told that because of the cancellation, and a previous booking made for another hotel on the same dates (to replace the one I cancelled), my Expedia account had a “red flag” on it, and all my current and future reservations with Expedia would be cancelled with a 50% voluntary cancellation fee. And if I wanted to reinstate the reservations, there would be a $500+ fee to do so, This involved 3 reservations (2 hotels and 1 car rental). The agent wanted to charge me $1,230 to keep reservations totaling $1,058. After much discussion and protest, the supervisor finally agreed to drop the cancellation fees if I would pay a reinstatement fee of $466.99. He told me I had no cancellation insurance on the future reservations. I was traveling at the time, and didn’t have the reservations in front of me, so to keep avoid paying high cancellation fees and having to rebook the reservations, I agreed and the agent put the charge on my credit card. I spoke with an agent by the name of Rodney, and then a supervisor by the name of Christopher. I then got a valid phone number for Expedia, and they informed me that there was no red flag on my account, and they never charged me a reinstatement fee. They did not recognize any of the 3 phone numbers I either found or was given for the fraudulent company. When I called back, they called themselves Consolidated Desk. My credit card listed a company called EXP Trips, out of WA, with a zip code of 98119. The other phone numbers I have is 855-568-4093. I called both numbers and explained the situation, asking to talk with a supervisor. The first agent (Martin) said he would have Christopher call me back, the second (Devon) said he would have Rodney call me back. Neither did so. I asked to speak with another agent or supervisor, and they hung up on me. I called back 3 times, and they immediately hung up on me. My husband called and they did the same to him. I am also not happy with Expedia, as they know this company is impersonating them, is misrepresenting the facts and charges, and knows this company is making reservations and cancellations on behalf of Expedia, and using Expedia.com as the email sources to mislead people. Expedia simply denied a connection with this company and said I needed to file a fraud claim with my credit card, which I will do
