Type of a scam Bank/Credit Card Company Imposter

Caller claimed to be from Equifax. I told him I didn't think so and he proceeded to tell me my SS# and birthdate to "prove" he was from Equifax. He told me because I "pay off my credit cards every month" (which I do!) that the credit agency and the Government were going to forgive my credit card debt this month for being so good about not carrying any debt. I told him I doubted that. He then proceeded to tell me - to the penny!- how much I had on four of my cards. He just needed more of my card # . I told him if he had the amount, he didn't need the card number as he should already have it. He said your Discover card starts 6011. I said all Discover cards are 6011. He needed the last six of my card # and the expiration date. At this point I hung up. He called back three times and left a voicemail once saying he didn't need the card#. He said he was Sam Burling ext. 8020 at 256-248-7037. I called Equifax but could not get any information. They would not elevate me to a supervisor. Very frustrating. It was like he was reading my Credit report which is locked. I am totally freaked out that someone knew that balances on all of my cards. He knew which cards I have! Called Discover and Sams and cancelled cards. Changed passwords to banking and all credit cards. Instructed my husband with dementia NOT TO ANSWER any unknown phone calls but for some reason he answered this one. The fraud lady at Discover said she had a call just like this one the night before only the many gave the caller all of his information. I want to know how someone has this much information about me.
