Employment Solicitation - Resume Formatting Scam Reports & Reviews (86)

- New Hope, PA, USA

Scammer contacted me indicating they were Kristen Pike a recruiter for a PE firm and that there was a Chief Innovation Officer role for which I may be a fit and she asked me to send my resume. I sent my resume and she indicated that my experience was a fit but she needed my resume in ATS format and she directed me to https://ats-friendlyresume.com/ for an ATS friendly resume which I purchased for $18 and sent to the "recruiter" and then I did not hear back from her. It is now my understanding, based on some internet search that this is a common scam. So not only did I spend the $18 for the reformatted resume but I shared my personal information (name, address, phone, e-mail, work history) with both the "recruiter" and "CMS Resumes"

- Vacaville, CA, USA

Contacted about an open c-level position. Resume did not work with their applicant tracking system. Asked to upload to https://www.highlevelresume.com/freereview.

Checked out website, FAQ page had some odd things on it and resume reviewer is not secure. Contactor asked to set up a call later this week to discuss an open position after they discuss with their client my credentials. Due to confidentiality, they cannot reveal more about the position or company at this time.

This is the second time this scam has been sent, by the same person. The first time I thought it was real, but realized it was a scam.

They tell you that you need to have your resume re-formatted to apply for a job that you are qualified for. You then get sent to a link:

https://atsresumesexp.com/ which actually does alter your resume (I personally didn't like it or use it but something was done to it.

But then there is no job. Which, again, does happen. But when I received the same email saying that there was a role that I would be a good fit for, but I needed to reformat my resume, that is clearly when the scam became evident.

I actually stopped by the address of this supposed recruiter - it doesn't exist.

Hello Andrew,

The role is aligned with your experience. Unfortunately, your resume does not parse correctly into the Candidate Management System. In order to move forward, I need your ATS compatible resume ASAP. You may contact https://atsresumesexp.com for ATS Compatible Resume.

For reasons of confidentiality and non-disclosure, I am not able to share any details of the position or company with you at this time. I will check my schedule and will contact you back to get started.

I was approached by email only about an open senior position initially by a woman (Emilie Johnson) and then relayed to a man (Michael Roberts) from a head hunter company (leading Headhunters Inc.). The man asked me to load my resume onto their platform which I did. Web site seemed Ok at first sight. He came back to me saying that he was going to talk to the customer in a few days and that meanwhile my resume was not in the right format so that their ATS system could not recognize it. I sent him a Word version. He confirmed my credentials were very good for the position and asked to run my resume through an on line analyzer/enhancer which I did. Result was that my resume was not optimal for ATS systems to recognize it. Michael said he was talking to the customer a few days later and proposed for a conference call after, to which I agreed but he did not confirm booking. The resume analyzer company got back to me by email and offered to improve my resume but I did not use them and used a free software to do so instead and reloaded my resume on the LeadingHeadhunters.com web site. When Michael got back to me by email, he explained that the position was finally removed as the customer that had the open position did not complete the acquisition in the making because of a conflict of interest, not related to me, that was discovered last minute. He said he was keeping my candidacy for future positions. It is only then that I started to investigate further and realized that they never gave me a phone number, that the company does not show a phone number on their website, that none of the Exec Team had a LinkedIn account, and that some areas of their website we incomplete. I guess the goal of the scam is either to gather info for Identity theft (fortunately I did not give anything sensitive like SSN, birthdate of full address) or maybe to get people to, spend money having their resume reviewed on the website they propose (https://www.highlevelresume.com/freereview). Not Sure. I will monitor my stuff closely for a few months.

Someone named Clay Martin mailed me to ask for resume for a senior position. then he asked me to format into ATS format to allow machine reading for the resume. shared a link to https://atsresumesexp.com for ATS Compatible Resume. I did as requested and paid the $17 fee.

Since sending the newly formatted resume there is no feedback and now the original email used to contact me is unreachable and gives a delivery failure message.

- Los Angeles, CA, USA

I received an email saying they were interested in hiring me for a virtual assistant position and I've since gotten emails from two people who appear to be from different organizations asking me to run my resume through a paid ATS service in order to be considered.

Scammer sent an unsolicited email about a VP job opening for an unnamed client requesting an updated resume. I replied attaching my resume, though received a quick response saying my standard PDF document did not display properly in their applicant CMS tracking system. They provided a link to a service to pay $17 to have this site regenerate my resume into some unknown format. At which time, I did a quick search for "PE Recruiting Inc" and found this same scam reported on the ScamPulse.com site, plus a LinkedIn article warning people about this type of scam: ********************************************************************************... />

Well damn, I was excited about investigating a potential VP of IT match, but got suspicious when you pushed me to pay to convert my standard PDF document, which is widely accepted everywhere. Contact attempt on 10/20/2023 via email from Clay Marting from PE Recruting about a Vice President of Technology role with a company they represent but refused to provide name. Asked for my resume. i provided. They replied said it was not parsable into their ATS system, and sent me to some ATS website that charged a fee of $17 to "convert" the resume into a format they required. I did not fall for this, but instead found a free service that created a fully ATS compliant resume format and created a DOCX and PDF version and provided both to him. They then replied an said that once again it did not work and pointed me to the same place. This is where I became highly suspicious as I know the data I provided to them was 100% compliant with ATS standards.

When I did some Google searches on the company, their emails, names, etc.. it let me to several reports of the scam process, and eventually to here to report it.

I have uploaded the email thread of the contact.

This scammer appears to follow job sites like LinkedIn, etc. He sees that you are looking for a job and asks you for your resume for a job that fits your resume. The hiring company's name is kept confidential. Once you send in your resume, his ATS (applicant tracking system) cant read/decipher your resume (which it clearly should). You are then provided a link where you can purchase a service that will generate a ATS compatible resume. Please note that a simple word.docx or pdf should be ATS compatible, which was originally provided.

Not a major dollar scam, but if he gets enough applicants to fall for this scam, it's easy money for them.
