On April 11th, 2023, the scammer called my aunt on her land-line phone. They stated that they were with DirectTV & his name was David Johnson and that he was from DirectTV's technical department. He said that DirectTV needed to do some upgrades to her DirectTV box. In order to do the upgrades, she would need to pay $150 to complete the upgrade and she would have to turn off her tv in order to complete those upgrades to her DirectTV box. My aunt doesn't have any credit cards, debit cards, or anything like that. David Johnson told her that she could get a gift card from Walmart and call him back with the card information. The following day, she contacted the tech department with DirectTV from her billing statement to confirm that David Johnson actually worked with DirectTV's tech department. She was informed that this was a scam and not to give out any personal information or purchase a card. DirectTV also told her that if they were to ask for additional funds for their services, they would put it on her billing statement.
