I was messaged by my niece over Facebook Messenger informing me about this "government grant" that I could apply for to receive funds to help with my bills. It was called the CFDA grant and I found them via a Facebook page. I sent them my information (name, phone number, address, birth date, vehicle ownership, rent or own home, marriage status, etc) via an application on their facebook page. I was contacted by a "Robert Zito" and informed me that I qualified for a $30,000 grant but they requested $600 up front. I then messaged my niece over Facebook because I thought it was a hoax, and she sent back a picture of a bag of money that was only $1 dollar bills. Someone definitely hacked my niece's Facebook account and impersonated her to try and get me fall for this scam. I grew wise to it before I paid them anything and I am reporting it here to warn others.

Message thru messenger from friend first asking how I was, seemed normal. Then told if this money she got and to apply for money. I was to text to private number and do application. I trusted person it came through so I persued it until it didn’t sound like the friend. When I asked for verification of legitimacy none was provided. So I then contacted my friend who said she was at work, wasn’t her! I then demanded I get an email address and that all of my information be removed, that I wanted nothing to do with it!

I was contacted today through IM from one of my FB friends. I too was given the same script about seeing my name on the CFDA list not knowing what the acronym meant I looked it up while texting and following my supposed friend to the point I called her on IM and when she didn't pick up I became hesitant as they were trying to get me to cash app them funds. I held them off while reaching my friend on her cell. She then told me I was the third person from her contact list that they have contacted. While speaking to her I screen shot several of the texts, told the individual on the connecting side that they have been found out. and that the information will be forwarded to the correct parties as a scam. Afterwards I emailed all of my FB friends and family to let them know of this current scam that is running through our circle of known individuals.

A message came from a Facebook friend on Messenger. I hadn’t talked to them in a long time and they started asking generic questions. Then they asked me if I had heard of the CFDA and gave me a brief description. I said no and they told me that they received $50,000 and I should apply. I didn’t respond and then I got another message with the name of a claim agent and her telephone number. Her name was Rebecca Smith. I did not respond and I got several more messages getting more aggressive each time.
