I had recently applied for a loan online. The following day I recieved a text message offering me a great interest rate and asking when I could speak on the phone. I gave a time and a man called. He asked me to verify my account which I did. He already had information, so they either obtained my loan request from a legitimate site or the site I was on was part of the scam. Either way this made it believable. They claimed they offer low interest loans to people of fair credit once they prove their trustworthiness by sending back an amount they would first send. This is where they started to lose me. I then started asking questions. What’s your name, where is your company located. I would like to do some research before I proceed. At this point the man became very confrontational. This is when I knew for sure this was a scam. He told me that I should go try to find a loan this good somewhere else, that I never would with my credit score. He said it in a demeaning way which was another red flag. Finally I told him I would not proceed. He stated he was going to automatically charge my checking account on file a 495$ cancellation fee, citing some law from the 1800s. I immediately called my bank, froze my account, and informed them this fraudulent charge may occur.
