Someone named Emily texted me asking to do a 10 minute zoom call the following day. I thought it was a real opportunity and sent my email for the zoom link. Afterwards I went to their website and noticed every photo was a stock image and the copy was very repetitive. They also don’t have any previous work from clients posted.

Someone named Emily reached out to me over text asking if I was still looking for work in the Philadelphia area and if I was, she would schedule a 1-on-1 zoom call. After the initial zoom call, I did a bit more research into the company and they had a legit looking website but when I clicked on the links, nothing worked and I began to become suspicious as I have had a lot of scams disguising themselves as real jobs in my past. When none of the links worked I looked them up on ScamPulse.com and no company came up so I googled "Bare Bones Engagement BBB" and a scam warning came up. After clicking on the ScamPulse.com website, I learned that someone else had a similar experience to mine and that Bare Bones Engagement is a scam.

Bare-bones engagement reached out via email and text message asking if I was still interested in a job in the Philly area. I looked up the website, it seemed legit, so I said yes and they scheduled a Zoom meeting for the following day. I was promised a one on one phone call but the zoom meeting featured Michelle Hirsch (going by Emily) and 50 other prospective employees. It was 10 minutes long, basically a rundown of the company and the position and then they sent out a survey monkey afterwards, saying that they would follow up with the top 20% of interviewees. I got an email and text message later that day for a scheduled interview at 8 AM the next day. I joined this interview and spoke to Juan and there was one other interviewee with me. The initial promise was that I will be joining a marketing campaign to work with a client, either T-Mobile or a nonprofit. They claimed T-Mobile required a team size of 800 people and that they currently only had a team of 30, so they were in a period of massive growth. While initially promising a marketing campaign, the job details mentioned a lot of bonuses, uncapped growth, endless promotions, and huge startup vibes. Nothing made sense or lined up with each other. I was immediately suspicious and did some research, finding out that bare bones engagement was previously known as brand building agency, and then D1 sales group, and that they are running the same scam, all the aspects of the scam are the same. They have a legit website and LinkedIn profile, but Michelle Hirsch, the women who interviewed me, has been linked to other scams. I found out her real name by looking through the LinkedIn profile of the company, but I think she was introducing herself as Emily during the interview process and initial communications. From my research (NOT personal experience) it appears if someone actually accepts the job and goes in for work, they end up doing door-to-door sales (which was not the promised job), I don’t know what the end goal of the scam is.
