caller said he was from Amazon security, and was notifying me of a $60 fraudulent charge on my amazon account. He told me to check my amazon account, and in fact a fraudulent charge appeared. He gained access to my computer, told me there were 157 hackers attempting to get in to it, and to help him secure my computer, I was told to go to Kroger and buy a Target gift card for $500. He said within 5 minutes there would be a $500 refund on the credit card I used to buy the gift card. Unfortunately, I did as I was told. He told me to scratch off the card number, take a photo, and text it to him. I did. He said the number of hackers had been reduced through this process, but many were remaining. He said to buy 4 more Target gift cards at $500 each, and do the same thing. Scratch off the security codes, take a pic of all 4, and text him the photo. I did. Now more hackers had been stopped, but some remained. He told me to buy 6 more gift cards. I said NO, I'm done. I disconnected him and called my credit card, told them I believed Iwas being scammed. They placed a hold on my account, and removed the $500, and the $2000 charges. However, those charges have since been re-posted to my credit card, because in fact I purchased the gift cards. Because I personally purchased them, regardless of who told me to do so, I am liable, and must pay. Expensive lesson.

- Oak Park, MI, USA

Caller identified himself as a representative from Amazon. There was a charge for a IPhone for over $1000.00. My account was frozen till the issue was resolved. Had a few words for him and hung up. Later dialed the number, a woman answered, I said a few words and hung up. Calling back, the call went to voicemail.

- Dearborn Heights, MI, USA

Got a call claiming to me Amazon, that there is a purchase on my account for $1200 for iPhone, and my account is locked due to fraudulent activity, press 1 to connect or 2 to report. Pressing 1 gave me the same message, pressing 2, it rang through to a person, they could not hear me and hung up.

- Columbus, OH, USA

I got a robo call indicating I had made a $1000 purchase from Amazon. It said to call 610-273-4271 for more information. I called back, and spoke to a foreign man, who said my "number" had come up. He didn't sound professional so I hung up. I don't have an Amazon account.

Left a message stating they were from Amazon and that there is an outstanding bill with them . Wanted a return call back asap.

Fake text from Amazon saying someone logged into account

- Lake Charles, LA, USA

Someone purportedly from Amazon called about a large charge to my Amazon credit card through Chase Bank. After going through the process, I became suspicious and uncomfortable. I did not finish the call but earlier I confirmed the last four numbers of my SSN. I am contacting all agencies with this warning.

Once on Saturday and three times today on Sunday, my landline has recorded three automated messages. They all sound like a woman's voice. Most of the message is not recorded, because the automated voice begins speaking as soon as the phone answers, while my welcome message is still playing. The part that is recorded advises me to "press one to connect with our Amazon Care Representative. Thank you."

- San Angelo, TX, USA

Recorded message advises of fraudulent charges in the amount of $xxx.xx. Advises to press 1 for more info from rep. Pressed 1 & told the jerk to put my number on the do not call list & I hung up.

- New Albany, IN, USA

My bank card date expired so was going to update and noticed in security settings a different phone other than what I have showing so decided better not update but should just call them tomorrow. 4:31 pm on 5/22 I received text from 401-239-2762 saying my purchase won me $1000 Amazon giftcard. I never purchased anything recently nor had I give out bank card info. I did text them stating I just sent their text to Bbb and Amazon though..please beware when bank info is needed

Says I purchased a computer I did not and said a 1500.amount

I've been getting calls from Amazon stating that I owed $1,400. They had my name and my address. I don't have a computer or Amazon.

Claimed, they would be pursuing a "claim" against me regarding my cancelation of an Order to Amazon**I HAVE NEVER "ever" contacted Amazon for anything (AND WILL NOT Ever)

- Mount Olive, IL, USA

We received a text message stating that there is an over $2800 charge on our account and if that is not correct to call one of those numbers. When my wife called the number given it came up Amazon on caller ID further legitimatizing the fraud. They claim how to resolve this issue we would have to go to a local Amazon store to fix it( no store even close) or if we can’t do that to go get $2000 worth of gift cards (that won’t actually be charged but to just complete the process). The fact that when she called the number given it showed up as an Amazon number completely gave this process a legitimate feel

- Royal Oak, MI, USA

I've received 5 calls today, the area code and the first 3 digits are the same but the last 4 digits are all different and the recording claims to be Amazon calling about suspicious activity on my account i hung up before my call was transferred to a representative

- Louisville, KY, USA

Received two recorded calls from a phone number saying there was fraudulent activity on my Amazon account. Said to press 1 to connect to customer service. I followed the prompt the second time and was connected to a live person. But I then asked if I could call them back, saying it was a bad connection. The phone number provided was 425-459-6174. I then called the toll-free amazon customer service number and verified there was nothing ordered on my account. Initial call came from 502-592-1895.

- Peoria, IL, USA

I have been receiving calls from amazon and they are calling about my account and there is a charge for over 700 and it says to hold on and I hang up. I have called amazon before and they have said they do not call people with an account and they do not show me as having an account, which I already knew.
