The scammer initially contacted me via text message, to set up an interview. Then, they sent an app in which we privately texted for an interview. From there they gave me a "job offer" which I assumed to be real. They informed me that I would have to purchase working materials for the job such as a laptop and time tracking device. After that, they sent me a contract which I, and others, read over and deemed it okay to sign. Next, they sent over a check which I deposited using mobile deposit. Once the deposit went through they asked me to send $500 of it out to a third party via Zelle. My personal bank then called me to tell me the original check that I deposited had been fake and that they would have to draw the exact amount of the check out of my personal account.

They send you a text saying you’ve been selected for the shortlist for the administration assistant/data entry. Then ask if you are still interested in the job. You say yes and then they tell you to get the signal private messenger app to conduct your interview. They ask all the typical questions a real job would. Then they say they are going to send your interview to the board of directors. They then come back and say you’ve been selected for the position and send you pdf’s called paperwork. The first one is the supposed job offer. Then they send another pdf containing what looks like real identity information you have to fill out from the job with the Homeland Security icon on it. She gives you an email address to send it all to. Once you’ve sent the documents social security card, birth certificate, drivers license etc for your identity then she says the company will be sending an email with a check for your mini office. It’s not a legal check because you are expected to print it off your printer and it reads mobile deposit only below where you sign the check on the back.
