My credit files are locked and frozen. I noticed a soft credit check (unsuccessful) from a bogus capital one entity. I then received a follow-up letter which the scammer said was about opening a credit card account, and gave the number 855-522-7663 which is a bogus #. They obviously wanted me to call them and give personal info, or unlock my credit file. Just reporting this.

Been in what kind of verify a recent application. Please. Call us back as soon as possible. Not more than 6 days from today, March 17th. the application numbers 896 -058-753 -290-287. Please refer to that number when you return the call. And again, the number is 896. 058 -753 -290-287. I was contacted via voicemail by Donna from Capitol One requesting a call back to verify a credit card application at 1 855 522-7663. She requested the reference number (given twice) be referred to when calling. One week later, I received a letter what looks like official Capitol One letterhead, dated the same day the voicemail was received - April 8, 2024 requesting for information to complete the credit card application. The letter requested the following documents be sent via mail (PO Box 31290, Salt Lake City, UT 84131-0290) or fax (1-844-456-4558): Government-issued photo identification for my husband; The Social Security number (SSN) or individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) for my husband; The Residential address for my husband. It also asked for his total annual income. It also outlined what type of documents would satisfy each required document. Someone by the name Cornelius, called asking for a random person by the name “Donna B********” to verify a recent application for Capital One. They asked me to call back were admit on the vm to provide them the application number ********. They stated their business hours were Monday through Friday 8am -10pm and Sunday 8am-5pm.

The caller was Lisa I believe. She spoke a mile a minute! Calling from Capital One Fraud Team about a recent application. I have not applied for anything from Capital One so not sure if this is legit or not. If someone else did, then this is a legitimate call. She left the business hours and phone number of 855-522-7663 and the supposed application number. SUPER fast talker!

I got a call and the caller ID said Capital One. The scammer pretended to be from Experian and because I had a good payment history they are offering to lower my APR. Also, they claimed to be the credit services company that issues all bank cards and that information is on the back of any of my banking cards for confirmation. They then asked what is my total credit card debt which is strange because Experian knows your entire credit history.

My husband was sent a letter from a company that claimed they were Capital One, and that an application had been submitted, which they needed more information for. The addresses did not match one the letterhead and the envelope. The envelope was addressed as P.O. Box 85619, Richmond, Virginia and the letterhead was P.O. Box 31290, Salt Lake City, Utah. There was several Typo's in the letter. The phone number 855-522-7663 was not a legitimate phone number for Capital One. The envelope had a presorted stamp, but no meter number. The paper was not cardstock quality. I believe it was a phishing attempt to get more personal information.
