I was selected as a remote online teacher with this company after a very short Zoom interview. The interviewer, Frannie, also sat in on the two subsequent sessions l taught. The first student refused to show her face on camera even when prompted, and the second student was a filling in session for me, as the teacher claimed to be absent. That teacher had sent me the student’s homework with no directions other than to review the work, which l did. I also conducted an economics lesson for an eighth grade student named “Sophie”; l had asked to be provided with her current school curriculum and assignments so that l could base my own lesson plans around her knowledge, but “Frannie” informed me that the school year had just only started and l would thus have to make my own lessons for now. I chose an eighth grade economics course that l had taught previously, as a certified educator in three states. The child seemed oblivious to this subject at all, though l discussed it with Frannie prior to teaching.

I was then required to teach a third grade writing course, though l never received curriculum even though l had asked for it. When l sent an email to Frannir wondering where the lesson plans were, she told me l was terminated for “failing to share my screen” while on Zoom calls. Mind you, Frannie (or someone else) always sat in on the sessions, and it was never once brought up to me that l had to share the screen.

I was promised via offer letter $20 an hour that l have yet to receive. I was informed that Frannie had chosen to sever employment with me also because she had “assumed l wasn’t interested in the position” because she didn’t receive my signed offer letter until after sessions had started, which is ridiculous because not only had the offer letter been sent, we had been emailing back and forth regarding payment issues.
