“Water Notice” was found on the door of the home we just purchased this week. Since I’m in the process of starting water service, I called the phone number. This person says they need access to our home to determine E. coli contamination

A local business is posting "Water Notice" warnings on doors across the city. After my security system alerted me to someone at my front door I opened the door to see a young man posting a flyer. He didn't ring the doorbell and I reminded him that he was not to solicit at houses with clear "no soliciting" signs. He apologized for failing to read my sign, he left. I read the flyer and it's certainly deceptive:

"WATER NOTICE

Routine Check Up

Safety Protocol

Please Call ASAP

(915) 465-5906"

I confirmed with our local water company (El Paso Water) that this is not an official notice, but rather a local business trying to sell a filtration system. The water company informed me they have received complaints from residents that the company comes in and installs what they tell the resident is a "necessary" filtration system/softener only to turn around and charge the resident $500. The resident believes it to be the local water company and when they call the local water company after the fact, there is no refund or action the person can take.

I believe this to be deceptive in that they don't identify the company in the flyer and create a sense of urgency that something is wrong with the resident's water source.
