Message claims to be a personal locator calling about legal documents received in their office regarding a complaint filed against me and I must call them to prevent a warrant or a visit from a process server. This scam has been going around and I will be reporting to law enforcement as I am elderly.

Calling saying I have complaints against me when I know I don’t

- Asheville, NC, USA • Sep 12, 2023

The person repeatedly calls me saying I have a warrant/summons outstanding. I know this is not true. They have my number and my husbands and they ask for him. We neither have any outstanding warrants.

- Dayton, TN, USA

Called my work place gave secretary case number said I missed court date was issuing a warrant. I called, knew my last 4 digit ss number, place employment. Said it was from a credit card 4 years ago which I didn't have, had it 20 years ago. We disputed that credit card 20 years ago and case was dismissed. Said I owe this amount plus court cost and lawyer fees to equal $10,000.00 estimate.

Got my card number and said was going to charge $79 three times on schedule dates saying there looking for my location is call back no answer to the number and they left voicemail so if could let me know if its real or scam

The Scammer called on Jan 14, 2023 and identified themselves as Jason Reynolds, a deputy with the Boone County Sheriff's Dept in Missouri. He stated I missed a Federal Grand Jury Court Date on Jan 9 and that I was in contempt of court and there was a warrant out for my arrest. I had three options: 1. I needed to turn myself into my local sheriff's dept for booking, which could take up to 8 hours 2: pay a fine and take the receipt to the Sheriff's office for submission and then I would be able to talk about specifics of the case, or hang up and be held in noncompliance and would be arrested. I selected the first choice and he stayed on the phone as I got dressed and headed to the Sheriff's Department. On the way there, I mentioned that I had work later and this would mean I would need to call someone. He insisted that I could not hang up or I would be considered noncompliant. He reminded me that paying a fine would take less time and the booking would not be on my permanent record. He was very sympathetic and patient. His answers seemed detailed and he knew about the Boone County area. He stayed with me at least 20 minutes after I deposited the cash in a Cloud Kiosk which, when I questioned him about it, he stated it was for my privacy. He directed me to the local Sheriff's office and once I was there he said something inappropriate and hung up. On two occasions I wondered if this was a scam and his answers were very convincing. He was obviously very prepared. There were definitely red flags and he gained my trust.

We received a call from someone, not identifying any particular business, or organizations that said we had four warrants out for our arrests. They left the phone number *** *** ** ** *** *** ***
