We booked a his villa, Villas Tortuga (recently renamed to Tortuga Sayulita) for our wedding. By initial indications, the place seemed legit -- it was on a verified local website for small businesses (meaning that someone from that site had visited the property - we actually met and spoke with the owner of the website) and it had multiple good reviews on the site and on Google. Brian responded to our email and seemed very on top of it and super professional. He answered all of our questions quickly and even has a LinkedIn with extensive work history. We put down a deposit of $3k to reserve the villa and were very excited. Two weeks before our wedding, Brian villa canceled our reservation, promised to return our money, and then just stopped responding to us.
