I was contacted by Jacob Grant of Travel Specialists, Ltd. to sell my Fiesta Americana timeshare in Cabo San Lucas, MX, to a Mexican citizen that resides in Mexico City. said yes after I checked out the two companies involved, Travel Specialists, LTD and Title Search USA Inc., both headquartered in Massachusetts. George Pereida is the title officer from Title Search USA Inc. The gross(before commission) sales price is $46,706 (All amounts are in US$). Over 5 and a half months, the Title officer kept coming back with another request to pay a fee, fine or tax from the Mexican government. The way it worked was as the seller, I am not responsible for any monies to be paid, other than my share of the sales commission. However, the Mexican government insisted that I pay the fee, fine, tax, whatever, and the reimbursement from the buyer was immediately put into the escrow account. For each of the 14 wires totaling $80,715.73 of my money, I received the Mexican order, the wire instructions, the amendment to the contract showing the new reimbursement amount to me and the updated escrow account balance. I asked multiple times in writing to cancel the deal. I was told by the Title Officer that I would lose my money if I canceled. At one point, the Title Officer said to me over the phone that he can prove that they did not do everything correctly. He promised to send me info which he never did. In August 2023 the deal was supposed to close and the wire was to be sent to me for the completion of the transaction because the Mexican attorneys for the title company obtained an amparo or injunction from the Mexican Supreme Court to proceed with the completion of the deal. Of course, the cost was an additional $4264.46. Following this the wire was held up again and the Mexican government now required $9000 for a Digital Dossier. I again said no to the payment and again instructed the Title Officer to cancel. This time I meant it, no matter what he said. To my surprise, the Title Officer came back with a cancellation fee of $11000 to be paid upfront to process my refund. I feel very stupid because I clearly was conned, no matter how much research that I did. I just want my money back. I am retired in AZ and $80,000 is a lot of money to lose. I only expected to get the $46,706 for this deal.
