The Scammer attempted to solicit Title Insurance fees, etc. as a result of public notice of my mortgage change. I received 4 separate 'Urgent' notifications via mail after closing a refinance.

I’ve received numerous pieces of mail from this scam, one refers to themselves as “Mortgage Protection Center”, the other is “The Mortgage Service Center”. One says “ we have been trying to reach you regarding a matter of importance as it relates to protecting your mortgage with (states lenders name). Please call 1–833–408–1587.” The other says “ we have been trying to reach you regarding a matter of importance as it relates to your mortgage. Please call 1–833–408–1587.” They also have a made up Mortgage ID # to make it look extra convincing. The letters state my county, closing date on the loan, loan amount, and the lender name.

I bought a house, and once the title was instated I got a scam letter from The Mortgage Service Center saying, "We have been trying to reach you regarding a matter of importance as it relates to your mortgage. Please call 1-833-408-1587." It was deceiving because it has my new county, the date the title to my house was recorded, and my lender name.

After repeated letters were sent to me reguarding my mortgage, I called the phone number listed on the letter. I felt that my mortgage was in jeopardy. While talking to the person on the phone they sounded very official and proceded to ask me for information. They want personal information including my bank account numbers in order to process payments. They didnt want a credit card and became rude when i refused to give them what they wanted. Then they threattened me by saying my loan will default if i dont pay.

I am receiving letters stating the Mortgage company under my actual mortgage comoanybis trying to reach me. Even sending a fake checkn in the amount of $199.00. I have received a green postcard. And about 6 additional letters. 7 in all.

They know the amount of my last recent refinance and therefore I am unsure of what other info they have. I receive mail solicitation weekly regarding my loan using the name of my lender in the mail to make it seem as it comes from them.

At first, sent a letter from the U.S. Postal Service identifying sender as my county assessor's office AND the name of my mortgager, immediately after I closed a mortgage, saying I must call my mortgagor at 833-905-3798. The mortgage amount was shown as $200K, which is too high, making me think my loan had a problem. I called and got what sounded like an AI voice asking a few questions about my health and saying it would call for further information. Then I looked at the fine print on the bottom of the mailing saying it was not affiliated with any lender! I immediately put it into my contacts under the name "Lender name (scam)" and then blocked that contact from calling me. I saved the letter. I feel humiliated that after a lifetime of pride in not being swindled, I came close to being scammed. They established a round-trip contact that opened me to give more information (social security, loan number, birth date, and anything else that could lead to identity theft). I was so distracted by it being an official-looking mail with my county assessor and lender's name I could have eventually given up ALL my personal data to "verify" my identity! Too close for comfort.

They frequently send mail which appears to be from our mortgage lender. The mail uses common phishing tactics like creating a false sense of urgency.

I got one today with this number: 833-408-1609. No indication what company sent this postcard. It wasn't till I looked up the PO Box that I found out who they are.
PO Box 19695, Jacksonville, Fl. 32245-9595.This definitely looks like a scam type.

I received a fold-and-tear bill-style letter. On the outside it read FINAL NOTICE RE: BETTER MORTGAGE CORPORATION. The postage was presorted US standard postage paid Sacramento CA permit number 1935. This permit number is referenced in a FTC complaint I found online, here is the link. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/documents/cases/amer_fin_benef_cntr_exh_d.pdf. When I opened the letter, it contained the publicly available information for my recent mortgage transaction (county, closing date, loan amount, lender name [better mortgage co], mortgage ID). Below, in very large letters, it said my name and 'We have been trying to reach you regarding a matter of importance as it relates to your mortgage. Please call 1-866-561-3261. Your immediate attention is required. Thank you, The Mortgage Service Center.' At the bottom in very small letters it said 'The mortgage service center is not affiliated with or sponsored by any banks or lending institutions; mortgage information obtained through public records.' I think this is intentionally deceptive and this uses scare tactics. In addition I think the use of the word "required" implies that it is a legal matter and is false and misleading.

Same thing: Bought a house and now bogus mailings disguised as if from mortgage co., but inside selling some type of insurance. Has mail fraud written all over it given the deceptive names used.

Finally decided to google the phone number on one of these letters and found this site. We have received 2-3 of these type mailings almost every day since we closed on our home equity loan about 3 weeks ago. Phone number on this latest one is 1-888-565-4854. This is absolutely ridiculous. Is there any way to put a stop to this? Maybe your mortgage shouldn't be made public record if we are getting this many scams.

I, too, got a mailing as described by the other reports. I DID call the number and the gal on the other end starting talking about Mortgage Protection Insurance...to pay the bill if I became disabled, died, got on hard times, etc. and she would need to verify some of my information, OF COURSE! I told her I wasn't interested and hung up. Next day I get a call from what looks to be a local city, but not the same area code. Since I was expecting a call from someone in that city, I answered. It was some guy calling me by my first name and telling me about Mortgage Protection Insurance. When I told him that I wasn't interested, he told me that when I closed on my recent refinance with Rocket Mortgage, that I signed a document saying that I requested information about this service. I told him that I did not recall signing anything of the sort. He said " Well, you are under no obligation to purchase anything, all we provide is the information you requested. Now let me verify that your address is ..." and gave me my address.
So I replied with " I'll tell you what I'm going to do before I answer any of your questions.
I'm going to go look at my closing documents and if I find a document that I signed that says I asked for information, I'll call you back" and I hung up.
I called Rocket and, I as I suspected, the mailing and the phone call are from The Mortgage Service Center, a third party vendor who obtains your information from the county public records (read the small print on the mailing) once you close.
The number on the mailing was 888-565-4854.
The phone number I got the call from was 737-201-0284.

I received the same mailing, making it appear it was from my refinance lender. The front of the tabbed mailing said "FINAL NOTICE" on the front, and inside below my lender’s name in large print, they wrote they've been "trying to reach you regarding a matter of importance as it relates to your mortgage."

Clearly a scam tactic to frighten recipients into calling the number. Just to see, I did dial, and they wanted me to input my actual loan info. UGH.

The fine print on the inside said "The Mortgage Service Center is not affiliated with or sponsored by any banks or lending institutions. Mortgage information obtained through public records." Considering all of the rest of the print is huge, that tiny font notice is going to be overlooked by a LOT of people.

A letter came in an envelope sealed with tabs on top and sides like you'd get a PIN, check or other document with confidential information. Front says FINAL NOTICE and my financial institution's name. Inside had info and amount of a refinance that I did a little while back. The logo for Equal Housing also on letter. Letter urges to call a phone number (which I did not). I assume it's a scam to get money, personal info or both. I also received an official looking document that said we’ve been trying to reach you regarding a matter of importance as it relates to your mortgage it says the lender name on there which is correct but the closing date is off by almost a week so I went online to check my mortgage lender and there were no messages for me just like people above reported Deceptive and probably trying to gleam information I didn’t even call the number this is such BS!
