I attempted to apply for a passport for my infant daughter; instead I was scammed. The scammers website ends in ".org" which I realized after I paid them $104.88. I found their website on a google search and it seemed legit. When I checked my credit card statement the charge went to "Simple-Sign-File.com " which I never heard of before. The phone number associated with this is located in Florida. It is frightening that they not have access to her personal information and can use it to open up bank accounts/credit cards etc. They also kept calling me (immediately after I called them) and emailing me (even on weekends) and the emails did not seem professional as you would expect from a government entity.
