I meant to call American Airlines (1-800-882-8880) but ended up dialing 1-800-882-8800. I have no idea if I misdialed or if the wrong number came up when I looked it up. A typical voice menu picked up "If you're enquiring about a reservation, press 1", etc. A guy picked up and told me the reservation I had on hold for payment was no longer available because the price increased. He said he'd find me another flight. He eventually did, and like an [censored], when he said he'd need to charge me in two separate payments, I said ok. First he put through the ticket, then the "taxes".

When he finally sent me the new itinerary, I saw it was from [email protected], and the penny dropped. He'd reserved me on Delta in a different class, then charged me a "fee" for his services (these were not the taxes). I did have the confirmation number for the Delta flight. I went to Delta.com and was able to cancel the flight, which had actually been booked.

Unfortunately, he had associated his own email address "[email protected]" with the reservation, so I did not receive the email confirming cancelation. All I have is a screen shot of it and a cancel authorization number that doesn't even pop up in Delta's system.

For now, I am out about 3200€.
