I paid $1,300 to a job support firm claiming they would market my resume, apply to jobs on my behalf, and help me secure a position in the tech industry. After payment, I was sent a checklist requesting extensive personal information — including full Social Security Number, passport, and driver’s license — which raised serious red flags.

Before filling it out, I contacted the recruiter for clarification. He referred me to his manager, who admitted he had no idea the checklist asked for such sensitive information. The manager clarified that I only needed to provide my resume, certifications, last 4 digits of my SSN, and anything I felt comfortable sharing. Based on that reassurance, I filled out the form with minimal personal information, as instructed.

Shortly afterward, their resume team sent me a resume that included completely fabricated details, including fake job titles, falsified work experience, and a master's degree I never earned. I never approved these changes. When I raised concerns, I was repeatedly pressured to give consent to use the falsified resume. I asked for time to consult my mentors before responding, and I made it clear that I would not lie or allow my resume to misrepresent me in any way.

Despite this, they continued to insist that “over 900 people have gotten jobs this way” and told me not to worry about the background check. I stood firm in my values and refused to compromise my integrity. It became clear that their business model depends on high-pressure tactics and deception.

I’m sharing this to warn others: if a company asks you to provide highly sensitive personal information upfront or pressures you to approve a fraudulent resume, it is not a legitimate service. Protect your reputation, your data, and your future.
