Publishers Clearing House Reports & Reviews (1652)

This number called my grandmother and said she was second place winner of 1.2 million and needed to prove her identity by drivers license number and paying taxes on the money to claim it up front. They talked for quite a while and when he, whom said his name was David *** could not provide my grandmothers name yet said he was in her town with her money, he rudely said "f--- you" a few times and hung up.

- Rathdrum, ID, USA

I received a call from Jonathan Anderson stating that they were the Publishers Clearing House and that I had won $2.5 million dollars and a Mercedes Benz. They asked if I wanted this to be a private delivery or if I wanted flowers and balloons. They asked me if I was a citizen, if i was married, and also advised me to go get makeup on while they had me on hold.

I hung up and called back, they stated i needed to go to a Western Union and send a total of $456 to pay for taxes of the money and the car.

Received a call, showing on my cell phone as unavailable, have received numerous calls showing unavailable. Decided to answer. The gentleman on the other end claims he was from Publishers Clearing House with $4.5 million I had won. I told him not to call again. He called again, I got phone number (843)488-4804, name John Schafer and badge number of 1979. Second calling he said I could bet $500,000 right then.

They called me on Monday. The man sounded like he was from India or someplace like that. He mispronounced my first name, so I hung up on him. I knew if it was someone important, they would know how to pronounce a common first name. He called me right back and wanted to know why I hung up on him. I told him I didn't want to talk to him. He told me he was from Publisher's Clearing House and that I had won over $150,000.00 plus a brand new Toyota. I told him it was a scam because I had not entered any sweepstakes or anything like that. He said it was because I had purchased a magazine from them 7 years ago. I told him I did not remember ordering any magazines 7 years ago. He wanted to know why I was lying to him. I hung up on him again. Wednesday, a different man called and said they had tried to call me Monday, and that I had not answered the phone. He wanted to know where I was on Monday since I had not answered the phone. I told him it as none of his business where I was on Monday. He swent on to tell me the same story about winning the money and the Toyota because I had purchased the magazine 7 years ago. He did not know the name of the magazine I had purchased. He confirmed my name and address. He said I could make a choice of having the prizes given to me on TV, or I could get them privately. so nobody would know I won the money and not ask for money from me. He went on giving me a password to use. He said write it down and repeat it to him. He said if anybody called me about the prize and did not givde me the password, I should not talk to them. He asked me if I wanted the money, and I told him no because I still thought it was a scam He wanted to know the name of a charity I would like to give the money to. I told him I still thought it as a scam and not to bother me anymore. He never did ask me for any money or social security numbers. I called the local police dept. and they said if the call had gone on much longer, they would have asked me to send them a Cashiers Check to geet the paperwork started. I would not have fallen for that, but thought I should report this scam to someone who would let other people know about it.

I'M REPORTING THIS ON BEHALF OF MY 82 YEAR OLD MOTHER WHO RECEIVED NOTIFICATION VIA U.S. POSTAL SERVICE, THAT SHE WAS THE WINNER OF $2.5 MILLION. I AM ATTACHING A COPY OF THE PRIZE NOTIFICATION, ALONG WITH A CHECK THAT WAS INCLUDED IN THE MAILING. I AM ALSO INCLUDING A COPY OF THE FRONT OF THE ENVELOPE IN WHICH THE NOTICE CAME IN.

Tried to attache 3 pics but only one is allowed

- Orange City, IA, USA

Caller said I'd won $2.5MM and a car from Publisher's Clearing House. Said to make sure I'm home to receive the delivery. In order to get the delivery, I would need a printed registration receipt. I should go to Walmart and get a MoneyGram for the .1% fee of $985.22. I asked for a callback number and he gave me 909-256-0232 which was different than the caller ID he called on. I mentioned this sounded like a scam and he asked why and tried to continue. I told him I wasn't picking up a MoneyGram or sending money anywhere.

- High Point, NC, USA

Caller claimed to be from the Federal Trade Commission, calling on behalf of Publishers Clearing House. Claimed that I had won $450k, which was being held in a bank in Miami, FL. Said I needed to call him back in order to claim the money, and that he would take my information and give it to the right authorities so that I could claim that money. I did call back.

The guy said we had won 2.7 million only to then ask for a check/money order to be sent to a non exisitant bank in a town nearby for $450.

- Colorado Springs, CO, USA

Received a call from an individual claiming to be from Publisher's Clearing House stating that they were out of California but had a person in Denver that can come meet me with my $10,000 a week for life and my new Mercedes but I had to send $950.00 for them to deliver.

- Galena, MO, USA

Just got a call that would give me 3.5 million and a new Mercedes Benz. They only wanted me to bring a 300.00 check to Walmart and send it to them. SCAM?

Two packages were sent from this company with a bill attached demanding the items be payed for.

- Saint George Island, AK, USA

Scammer gave his name as Mike Collins. Said I won Publisher Clearing House sweepstakes. I think he said I won $750,000 and a 52" TV. He wanted to meet at Walmart. I believe that would have been where he would have asked for money, if I had agreed to meet. He spoke very fast.

- Lancaster, CA, USA

Today, 2 Aug 2017, at about 9:43 a.m. PCT, I received a call. I didn't recognize the number so allowed the answering machine to pick-up. The male identified himself as Dave Sawyer and indicated that I had won a Publishers Clearing House prize of 2.5 million dollars or $10,000 a week for life. He informed me to contact the Claims Department to receive my money. Prior to hanging up, he again reminded me to call the Claims Department at 518-299-8565, the same number listed on my phone ID. I did not return the call.

- Tucson, AZ, USA

I was called today by someone saying they were calling me from Publishers Clearing House and I had won 2.5 million dollars and a new car (I think it was a Mercedes) All they had was a first name, Mary. That is not my name, but it is the name of one of my best friends and we tend to share everything, so it wouldn't be too surprising that she would put my phone number down on something in case of an emergency or as a back up contact phone number. And she does order magazines once a year for my niece. At first they said all the right things, "Are you dressed?" We will be coming with a van and is there room to park your new car where you are? You need to be a United States Citizen and have a bank account. Your contact persons name is James Anderson, you will be meeting with Betty (or Debbie) Right." But then they started talking about all winnings being tax free and I started to get suspicious. They didn't have a last name and they kept asking me to verify who I was. I kept asking them who had signed up for the sweepstakes and they kept saying they couldn't tell me if I couldn't verify who I was. They kept me on speaker phone while I got dressed (I tend to mostly work from home in my PJs) and then transferred me to a "manager." The managers "secretary" sounded a lot like the person I had already been talking to. The "secretary" asked my name if I wanted to be transferred. I said, "You all called me. Please transfer me to your manager." He talked to me for quite a while, threw in some "Trust in God" lines, which made me even more suspicious and then asked me to go to Walmart and get a money transfer from Walmart to Walmart in the amount of $285 as some sort of shipping fee or something like that, and to make sure I kept my receipt so that I could give it to the driver when they brought me my check and new car. They asked me to make the payment out to: Flora Johnson, Garland City, Arkansas, 71839. They also wanted me to stay on the line while I went to Walmart. They also asked me if I wanted to keep my winnings private or if I wanted a public display. Once they asked me for my address, but didn't ask again. They encouraged me to keep my winnings private, I said if this is legit I want all of this public, the TV cameras, the News media, everything. Finally they let me off the phone and said they would call me back in an hour after I got the receipt for the money transfer from Walmart to Walmart. They were calling me from a phone number in Jamaica. I immediately called the ScamPulse.com, where I was transferred to a Royal Seas Cruse's hot line trying to get me to pay a bunch of fees for a free cruse. Wow what a day!!! The phone number for the ScamPulse.com came up as 1800-696-2827 and came up with an address to an old Tucson Location from about 10 years ago. I know this because I dialed the other ScamPulse.com local number 1-520-888-6161 and talked to a real person. I talked to her about the warning signs of this phone call and she confirmed my fears that this was indeed a scam. Thank you BBB.

Publisher Clearing House letter received in the mail congratulating individual on winning $600K.

Next day a check came in amount of $9K.

Took to tax/financial advisor who called all the phone numbers listed in the letter. They worked one time.

Check issued from Focus Design Interiors - indicated this was a sponsor used to pay fees. Called the company and the referred immediately to their bank, Bank of Georgia to a specific person who confirmed the scam.

Bank account had already been closed.

Tried calling original numbers back and all had been disconnected.

Mail address from NY, postage mark was from Indianapolis, IN.

Individuals over the phone were difficult to understand.

Recipient of the "winnings" was 90 years old.

- Brunswick, GA, USA

I was contacted by a David Anderson about a 1.5 million dollar prize winning from PHC. He gave me a check number, ticket number, bar code number, and a check security number. The call dropped and later in the day I received a voice mail to contact his manger Michael Cooper well when you call the number it goes straight to voice mail. They claim the check would be from Bank of America and that I would also have to speak with and sign paperwork for their attorney John Brown. Asked if I would like the check in private or with the media. And some of the crew would have to accompany me to my bank.

- Cleveland, OH, USA
