SCAM using legitimate Company and employee names

I was contacted by an individual asking if they are being Scammed. The answer is YES! As far as I can tell someone is using CareerBuilder to harvest job applicants’ phone #'s. Then using TekCom's real employee names to appear legitimate as part of their Scam! It appears that everything is being done online...No live contact...The exact opposite to how we operate. I hope sharing this will help. The only thing worse than someone using our company name as part of their scam is actually being scammed.

"Hi

I just went through an elaborate interview process with Chris Vernak from your company in an automated manner on Microsoft Teams.

It began with a text message from 779.699.0301 Megan Gover for a $38/hour data entry position and ended on Microsoft Teams with a job offer, a note to purchase work materials and a funds to come through to make payments. "Preparing a start up check to be emailed to you..". This is where it started to raise red flags for me.

I need you to confirm that this is not some elaborate scam."
