Recently a random number called my mother on her cell phone. I have often told my mom not to answer any numbers she doesn't recognize. The person called leaving behind a voicemail with a file number, my mother's name and claiming she had to return their call. The person sounded like they were reading from a script.

I received a phone call on May 8, 2025 at 1:18PM from (844) 409-5431. The caller left a message, which sounded like a recorded message. The Transcript of the message is as follows:

"Hi, my name is Amanda (then there was dead air for a second, like the scammer was pretending to say a last name and there was a faked reception issue) and I'm calling with the delivery department of document procedures and conduct regarding a sealed document scheduled to be delivered by an in person agent to either your home or place of employment. If no contact is established this will be escalated and classified as a failure to comply. Any questions or concerns can be addressed by pressing one to speak with a review manager or you may contact the reviewing office at 1-855-730-5431. Thanks for your time and have a great day."

I get multiple calls and messages from easy loan solutions on a variety of phone numbers. "Samantha" always leaves a message. I called back. When you press "9" as directed to be "unsubscribed" the auto-voice tells you pressing 9 is not valid. So I got connected to a real person who answered the phone and told her to unsubscribe me. She said it would take 24 hours and she hung up. I am going to find out where they are and alert the authorities in their jurisdiction and if I get one more call, I'll sue.

Ignored call, which was at least second from this number. (Number comes up on phone as “Evanston,” but probably isn’t local call.) Heard message later. After a long pause, a lady caller came on the line. She spoke with an Oriental accent. The voice was unclear and faint. I think that this was a canned message. It didn’t include my name or any details about the supposed “case.” The line was noisy. I think that she mentioned something about serving me papers later today. She said that if I don’t call back, the company or complainant will “have to proceed.” I’m unsure to what legal matter she was referring. No doubt, the vagueness was intentional. I was to call back and cite the case number 610-05041. At the very beginning of the message, the lady mumbled a firm name (I think). This seemed to be SES. I won’t be returning this likely phishing call.

We receive almost daily (sometimes multiple times each day) robocalls from random upstate New York phone numbers, usually from area code 315. The message always starts off with, "This is Brian from the Tax Relief Center. Our records indicate you qualify for the IRS Fresh Start Program" and continues on from there, asking us to call 877-200-5098.

The voicemail is different every time (not the same repeated recording) but always refer to the same specific “loan number”. Numbers called from include +1 (505) 390-6957 and +1 (645) 203-0931. Callback number is always left as 877-867-5139.
