My mom was renewing her passport (by herself) she stated she went through the travel state.gov site because she googled first it first. She asked for my help to upload the photo. We got to the payment portion and she was thrown off because it didn't have an option to upload prior. I said maybe it's afterwards (I wasn't sure as I did mine via mail) but AFTER the payment was made $217, then it allowed to upload the photo. she received a confirmation email and then a notice stating she still needs to pay $130 for a "gov't processing fee" and she was also charged $19 for an "application protection fee" and $29 for shipping, totaling the $217. I researched online at the REAL travel state.gov site and saw the scam notification on the home page.
