Online Travel Reservations - Airline Imposter Scam Reports & Reviews (1)

On 9/14/22, I attempted to call IcelandAir to change the destination of a ticket I had booked. I went to the website contact page, but the number to call for ‘US and Canada’ was not working. (I found out later that I would need to modify the number from the one provided in the link.) Having tried this multiple times, I searched again and called the number that presented itself: It specifically said it was for IcelandAir, and, as I was not able to get ahold of IcelandAir through their link, it seemed like I’d found the correct link to call from the US.

When I called, I asked if I was connected with IcelandAir, and they said ‘yes.’ The speaker, “Louis,” continued to impersonate an IcelandAir representative for the duration of the conversation. He said that I could rebook my ticket for a fee (the same fee amount that IcelandAir actually charges), and that I would need to pay for the change in my flight but that I would be receiving a refund for the travel funds not used. However, this service was not provided: I was charged the “fee” amount twice, and was also charged for a new ticket, with my old ticket untouched. Needless to say, there was no refund and this was not the service I consented to pay for.

In good faith, I called the number again when I saw the charges: two charges from a company I did not recognize (JAZ Travels), and one charge directly from IcelandAir for a ticket I did not wish to purchase. The representative I reached at the company I now knew as JAZ Travels told me to email their support department. The email did not go through - it was a fake support address. I was not able to get a hold of them again.

I did not use either ticket for my travels. I did not feel safe using the ticket the scammer purchased, and IcelandAir had modified my email address to the scammer email address on the original ticket, sending them my travel information.

Further context:

Throughout my conversation with “Louis” I was put on hold for extended durations. It seems that, during this time, “Louis” was impersonating me to IcelandAir, then would return to our conversation and repeat what the IcelandAir representative had said. In this way, I was asked for all the same information that an IcelandAir representative would have asked for. I am aware of this because, when I did get a hold of IcelandAir (once I figured out how to modify the number provided on their website, and realized that I had been scammed), the actual IcelandAir representative said that someone had spoken to me on 9/14/22. That is the date that I did not manage to reach IcelandAir, but instead was communicating with the scam impersonators of IcelandAir.

Another address for this business is 25/30 ,Baba Ji Complex, Ganesh Nagar, Tilak Nagar, New Delhi, Delhi 110018, India.
