The website sells refurbished phones. They were selling a Galaxy S21+ for about $530. The price seemed right and the website seemed well made and legitimate. I entered my credit card information and was sent to a screen where my bank would text me a code for me to enter to verify the charges. I had previously bought a laptop from a different website that made me do the same things, and I received the computer. So this wasn't unusual. they charged my card and I got emails saying it was approved and they were preparing my order. a minute later they sent me an email saying my transaction was flagged in their system as risky and I would need to send them a copy of my driver's license and proof of address. I emailed back asking why it was flagged and how I'm uncomfortable sending copies of such personal information to them when I haven't used their services before and they have already taken my money and I have approved the charges with my bank. He did not give me a straight answer and pretty much told me my only option was to send the information. I called my bank and they said that the code sent was legitimate but that there was no reason for them to be asking for personal information like that. I asked the company for a phone number for a manager so I could speak to someone and see if we could verify my identity without them receiving a copy of my personal information. They said they don't have a phone and I can either send the information or they will cancel the order. I told them to cancel my order. I am waiting to see if they refund my card.

Them taking my money yet refusing to send the goods unless I send them information that would allow them to bypass any fraud detection is very suspicious. The fact that they have limited contact information and I can't even speak to anyone on the phone is very suspicious. The email they were messaging was linked to the card. The address on the card was the same as the shipping address. There should've been no reason why it was flagged. It was a very routine transaction.
