Remote job offer turned into fake check scam

I was emailed the opportunity to apply to a remote job. I went through the interview and was offered a position with a list of required equipment. The recruiter was professional until they asked me to print off a check and deposit it to buy the items on the required work list. It didn't sit well and when I messaged them about feeling uncomfortable things got weird. They had a copy of my drivers license and knew where I bank but didn't have account numbers and no one asked for me to send money anywhere. I did a little research on the company and the jobs were posted on Indeed and it looked legit until that happened. As soon as I asked for the phone number to reach out to HR they stopped communication.
