Pine Straw Con Artists

This 3 man crew goes door to door saying they will install pine straw for $7/bale in Chatham NC. They later tell you they are smaller bales than the typical. My yard usually takes 100 and I told them that. They said it took 350 bales when finished. They asked for some $2500+ when the original discussion was around $700, my usual payment. They argued for 30 minutes with me before walking away with 1500 which is still hundreds more than the most anyone would charge. I reported them to the sheriff.

A couple of young black men rang my front door bell offering pine straw for $5 per bale, with free labor to spread them. I told them to spread some three different sections in front of my house. After they finished, they said the yard took 485 bales to cover, with the total bill of $2,425.

After the fact, I talked to couple of landscaping professionals and told me the area where mulch was put on should have taken no more than 50 bales of pine straw the most.
