Paid a deposit for a Maine Coon kitten from a Denver seller who disappeared

Scammer relied on phone conversations instead of email. I reached out a week ago regarding a male Maine [censored] advertised on the site Mainecoonskittensforsale.com as Jake. The rep said that they were located in Denver, CO. Since I live in OH, I asked if they were ok with my friend (who lives in Denver) going over to verify Jake before I made the full purchase commitment. He said ok, but that there has been a lot of interest in Jake and that they could not guarantee holding him without a down payment. He gave me his Zelle info and requested $300 to hold Jake. When my friend reached out the day scheduled to meet up and verify Jake, they did not respond. 1031 South Vine St was the address they gave. When my friend told me they hadn't heard from them, I reached out via phone call and text to (970) 235-0564. They still have not responded. Not only did they take my $300, but I am also out the cost of my flight to go and get Jake. Your Story in your words Scammer relied on phone conversations instead of email.
